Question about roof options

I was looking into buying a new Jeep, in black. I would like to have both a soft-top and a hard-top.

I was looking at the roof options and saw the following:
  • BLACK 3-PIECE HARDTOP (MX3) -inc: freedom panel storage bag, rear window wiper w/washer, rear window defroster, tinted rear windows *Deletes STD Sunrider feature and easy-folding soft top
  • BLACK EASY-FOLDING SOFT TOP W/SUNRIDER FEATURE (MX4)
  • BODY COLOUR 3-PIECE HARDTOP (MX1) -inc: freedom panel storage bag, rear window defroster/wiper/washer, tinted rear windows *Deletes STD Sunrider feature and easy-folding soft top
Now, the MX3 is $735 and the MX1 is $1,715. There doesn't appear to be much different except that the MX3 is in black while the MX1 is in "body color." But, if I'm getting a BLACK Jeep, will the black color of the MX3 hardtop match the black body color of the Jeep? Or, is it a flat or matte black?

Thanks.

First of all, welcome to the forum!

Either the MX3 or MX1 is a hard top ONLY, no soft top. You would need to get the dual top group to have both a hard top and soft top.

Back to your original question, the MX3 is a flat black, textured fiberglass or plastic (not really sure which). The MX1 is painted to look the same as the rest of the Jeep, a glossy, shiny black.

If you have ever seen the difference between the Sahara matched flares and the normal black flares, it's basically the same thing.

You answered my question. Thank you sir.

Actually, one other question. As a former dealer mechanic, we wouldn't install remote starts on manual transmission-equipped vehicles. Does Jeep install remote starts on manual Jeeps?

I don't know if jeep dealers will but I've had other places say that they would install one for me. Basically there are special systems for manuals that require you to do a specific sequence of things before your car will be prepped

You have to put it in neutral, arm it, then lock the car. If the car is unlocked at all or a door is opened before you go
To do the remote start, the starter is disarmed and it won't work that time

No need for a remote start on the 6spd........just send the wife out to start my JK 10 minutes before I leave to go hunting. Nice and warm when I get in.

On the MX3, obviously it's still going to be black, but I don't think it's the exact same as the body. Like mentioned above, it's more of a flat black. However, with that being said, if I was going with a black jeep, I wouldn't bother paying extra to have the "body colored top." Black is black, IMO, when you are talking about a jeep top. I have seen plenty of black jeeps with black tops and they all look great to me. If you look really close at a parked jeep I guess you could tell, but if nothing else it's the same color black to match the bumpers and some of the trim.
