Question about time it takes to install running boards/steps

So I told my dealer only way I would buy was if they threw in side steps/running boards or whatever you technically call them at their cost. I am a woman and average height but it still involves a bit of gymnastics getting in and out. So they agreed. I suspect they are just dealer standard issue tho they made a big deal saying they were $700 (translated: the actual parts are probably what a quarter of that or less lol). So I got my appointment tomorrow. He said I had to come by 2 because he only has techs until 5. Does it really take that long 3 hours to install???? They have power tools and I assume they just bolt to the holes on the side no?

It is LITERALLY 3 bolts per side... That's it... No drilling, removing anything, or even lifting the hood... Just lay down, bam, bam, bam... Next side... They aren't $700 either... Unless you are talking about something else... Here's a quadratec link:

I put mine on in about 1 hour. The running hoards (called side steps) has two bolts to the frame, and four to the pinch seam. That is on a two door, each side.
I believe the four door has an additional bolt to the frame.

There are bolts on pinch seam, and into the frame.

If they are throwing them in at no cost to you. Go for it. If at their'cost' then I say thanks but no thanks. You can find the stock steps on craigslist fro very cheap. or, go aftermarket and get something much better.

This is the type of thing that literally looks like a ten minute job... Looks can be deceiving, but let's call it 20 minutes with the right tools... You would probably take longer unpacking the steps and getting your proper socket size located...

there are no bolts to the pinch seam for the nerf bars, the rock sliders have the pinch seam bolts and it takes me about 20 mins to drop and put them on.

It's a two person job if you do not have jackstands to hold it in place. The number of bolts depends on 2DR or 4DR.

Nwbronco-nope no added cost to me. So I was correct-a pretty quick job as the dealers service undoubtedly has both the people and tools. Maybe they just wanted to go home early lol. I do have the 4 door. Thanks all!

I wouldn't assume they just want to go home early... Your vehicle may sit there a couple of hours before they actually touch it... I took mine in to get the rear license plate retainer replaced (the salesman put the screws in the wrong place) and I was there for several hours... I mean it was literally all friggin day... I then saw them drive it up to the vehicle pick up area and take the old one off and pop a new one on there in less than 15 minutes... I was FURIOUS... The entire time I was there, the salesman kept walking by and saying they were almost done... Probably came by 6 or 7 times... Last time I got a coupon for a cheap oil change at the dealership, I bit, made an appointment for the first slot (they opened at 8:00 and that was my appointment time), showed up early (7:30) and I was there for 3 hours... FOR AN OIL CHANGE!!!

I understand that they get busy and prioritize, but when you show up, don't think that because you know it SHOULD be quick that it will be...

Maybe I just have a bad outlook now, but I NEVER expect timely service at the dealership anymore...

Ouch WC! Ford was notorious for doing that as well-I had a few 3-4 hour oil changes. The cool thing is the Jeep dealer is literally just a block or 2 depending how you count from where I live (Ford was maybe a mile further). So either I drop it off and they call me while I am still walking home lol or I can go home and laze by the pool a few hours. They do have a shuttle so I suppose I could go back to work, but could doesnt mean will. I am salary so I lose nothing missing a couple hours.

It is like removing the hard top. It isn't hard, it is just hard to to by yourself. You need either jack stands or a hoist.

If you have the right equipment and/or two people...it takes just minutes.

I took my rock sliders ($148 SHIPPED to my door!) to a local weld shop for $35 and 20 minutes later, BAM! Awesome!

Nice ride BlackOps! Maybe when my Jeep grows up and cuts its baby teeth on a few trails I will get rock rails. For now it is a DD and not many big rocks/roots at the mall lol!!! My son has a 2014 JKU and he wants the snorkel - I believe that is the thing coming up your passenger side?
