Question Concerning Aftermarket External Panels

I was at the local Dealership yesterday getting my oil changed in my JKU and was looking around the showroom to kill some time. They had a heavily modded show piece on display.

It has XCR armor panels, these from the Smittybuilt website:

Smittybilt XRC Armor | Tube Fenders | Jeep Corner Guards | Jeep Rock Sliders.

My question is, does water getting between the armor and the body panels promote excessive corrosion/ damage to the paint?

Thanks for raising the question…I was wondering the same thing. I live in Minnesota and am considering putting on rocker panel armor but am a bit hesitant wondering if there is increased chance of corrosion with salt/moisture getting between the armor and sheet metal, particularly since I have to drill through the door panel. Hopefully someone will post who has had armor on for 5+ years.
