Question for the ladies (or even the men that may have been here before).

My wife and I ordered a '12 Wrangler for her to DD. It was supposed to be a surprise for her, but that got messed up by a dealer SNAFU. Ever since we ordered I have been acquiring mods for it with the intention of picking up the Jeep and installing them before giving it to her. The mods were meant to be a surprise because she pretty much picked them all without knowing it. It occurred to me today that she may actually like to help put them on. She does most of her own work on her car and is pretty useful in the shop, so she wouldn't just be in my way. If your husband bought you a Jeep and a fairly sizable pile of mods would you want him to put them on, or would you rather help?

If it matters, the mods (or most of them at least) are in my sig.

I would think you and her would do them together, she would appreciate the bonding and help, in addition to the gift and mods

Wow. A wife that wants a JK with sweet mods, and wants to help put them on herself?!?!!?!

Where can I find one of those....please advise if she has sisters or friends.

Because if she would rather be surprised that would kinda screw that up. Even my feeble man brain can figure that one out.

We don't really have a lot of friends because friends have proven to be a huge pain in the butt. It seems we are much better friends than our former friends are and that gets taken advantage of too much. Of the friends we do have, none are available that I know of. She does have a sister who is married (and automotively worthless anyway). The sister has a daugher that is 17, so maybe if you're young enough and can cope with all of the BS that goes along with a 17 y/o only child that's been handed everything she's ever had and never been disciplined in her life.

I like to do mine but I sometimes ( almost always) need help with torqued nuts & things that are simply to hard for me, so on that note she will probly' like to help if she likes to get her hands dirty

I think I'll taker her to get the Jeep and have the pile of parts waiting on her when she gets home. Then we'll get it all put on. She'll probably do the floormats, sill covers, fuel door, grab handles, etc. while I do bumpers and wheels.

Yes, the dealer did it for me. I was going to mount them myself, but I don't have any way to dynamic balance them. The cost was the same for M&B or just to balance, so I let them do the work.

You should let her do them with you especially since it will be her jeep. My girlfriend loves to work on cars so I let her work on my jeep with me. She didn't know anything automotive but now she can change diff fluid, do oil changes, and wire extra lighting. Your wife would love to work with you on the jeep so that it is a bonding activity and then you guys can say you did it together

It sounds like you need to have a talk with my wife.

I loved helping my dad work on things and build things. Sounds like you two work good together. I'd let her help. Wrap everything with big bows and let her unwrap them.

I can't even imagine how giddy I'd be if the husband got the lift, bumper and wheels I want and surprised me with them! Wow, that's just so cool. Anyone want to have a chat with him!

It's too hot where you (and I) live to do the mod's yourself unless you have an air conditioned garage.
My CJ-7 does not have A/C (I took it out years ago) and I haven't even driven it this summer.

Sadly a chat probably won't fix him. I even keep a list of b-day and Christmas gifts in my phone. When she tells me something she wants or I see something she'll like I put it on the list. When it's time for a gift I just have to go pick it up and I know it's something she will like because she picked it out herself months before. Works great.

Not really, but I grew up here in a house with no AC. You haven't lived until you spent a day in the field when it's 105 only to come home to a house that's 110.

Well done How long have you been married???

The husband is SO tired of me asking questions about Jeep stuff. Tire sizes. Lift or Level. Stock wheels and bigger tires. Stock tires better wheels. Full front bumper. Stubby front bumper. Full front bumper with full size grille guard.

I told him tonight I liked the look of a lift, w/stock wheels but bigger tires and I swear I saw that deer in the headlights look

Married 6 years, together 16.

The Jeep mods were a little more involved to pick out. I found pics of 5 or 6 wheels to look at and she would say she liked one or two of them. Then I put those with 4 or 5 others and asked which she liked. After going through this several times she was always picking the same two, so I picked what I liked from those two. The same process was followed for tires and bumpers. It took forever, but I won't be in the doghouse for buying stuff.

I think she'll be surprised just the same either way you handle this. Personally, my husband and I have enjoyed working on my Jeep together. If she's like me, she'll take pride in knowing that she helped modding her own Jeep.

I think that's a great plan! She is a lucky lady!

I would want to help too. I don't know much about working on cars but I will love to learn and my husband teaching me would make it all the more better! I would take pride in helping since it's my Jeep.
