Question for those who ordered a new Jeep AND had a trade in.

I want to order a new JKUR. I have bought new off the lot before but never ordered. I just got a buyer for my LJ. I also have a trade in though. I am going from having a weekend Jeep and a DD to just a new Jeep.

How does it work when you order a vehicle AND have a trade in as part of the deal. Obviously there is quite a few weeks to wait for the build. Does the dealer expect to take the trade in before the new build arrives?

Sorry if it is a dumb question. I have never been in this situation. I don't want any surprises when I go to the dealer. Thx

I don't know if every dealer will do it, but the one I went to ordered exactly what I wanted with no money, no papers, basically no obligation to actually buy it. It gets built like I ordered it and basically I get first crack at buying it when it comes off the truck. My dealer told me they have no problem doing this as long as you're not asking for something weird like pink paint or something because if you end up not buying, they'll still sell it. They told me it's becoming more common to order like this because they're producing less inventory these days.

I have two leases that are set to expire in April but that I'm trading in, or better said, the dealer is buying out now. I'm looking to have him take the cars off my hands ASAP because it would alleviate me from both lease payments for however long it takes the jeeps to come in. Now, my dad has a livery business so there are always spare Lincolnshire that I'm lucky to drive around in while I'm waiting. The same may not be the same for most.

Also, the dealer went ahead and ordered both jeeps without a deposit either. They are pretty standard jeeps but not fully loaded like the majority they had on the lot and since we are buying these, we were particular in terms of the color and options. Plus, it yielded a better price.

We put our $500 deposit down only after I requested and was given a firm quote for my trade-in. He (Inventory Manager) did say if it came in after the 1st of the year the qoute would drop $500. I was okay with that so we ordered.

Good question, as also in the process of this. The other question related is if the price drops during or inbetween delivery. If delivery is 3 months and by the time it comes there is a sale, do you lose? Already where I am the 2o12 only officially released December 1st and price dropped this week by 500 dollars.

It depends on the dealer. My Rubi took about 9 wks. The only thing the dealer would have been concerned with was any damage, which there wasn't, so the deal went ahead. I had no mileage restriction. There was no issue and any incentives went my way.

I gave up on the trade in - they offered me $1,200 (later upped it to $1,800) trade in on a 2000 Subaru Forester in perfect condition but with high mileage. Ended up selling it privately for $6,200. Took a couple of weeks after I had already taken delivery of the JK, but was well worth the wait. Market value at the time was $7,000 to $9,000 for average mileage in good condition (average mileage was 150,00 to 180,000 km they reckon, mine had 326,000km on it)

i always buy off the lot, but i wouldn't give up my trade until my vehicle was in the dealer waiting for me to look over and drive before i accept it. if you do give up your trade, you are locked in. if a sale comes along while you are waiting for delivery, they have to give it to you as they know you will head down the street and buy elsewhere.

I ordered with a trade and they offered me the trade value and I put $500 down. Once the new one comes in, I just hand it over. No mileage limit or anything.

Because of the problems getting Honda minivans on lots back in August, I was offered almost $2000 more than I expected on my trade. The dealer said the trade would be less when the Jeep arrived beause the expected the van shortage to end. (We knew I would have a longer wait because I ordered Crush the first week it was available.) I made him lock in the price on the van - would not place the order until he did. I had already gotten the price of the Jeep where I wanted it, so I ended up paying quite a bit less than what I planned.

They printed out a purchase agreement the night I ordered and I paid $500 down. The night I went to pick it up, I told them I was not buying anything extra. I spent very little time in the finance office - I reminded the guy I had already paid $500 of the final price and signed the papers.

I put a grand down and got a trade in guarantee. When my new Jeep comes in I drop off the old one and drive away. Pretty simple.

I finally ordered my new Jeep last week. Got an auto white JKUR w/4.10, saddle leather, hard top only, connectivity, tow, remote start, 430N, AC, and slush mats. I was able to get the trade in value secured in writing. I have my VON but no VIN yet. I'm sure the wait will be brutal. Trying not to obsess over it too much. Anyways, thanks for all the advice!

dealers are such liars, ive traded in 8 cars in 4 years, just bought my jk went to five diff jeep dealers before i was happy, one told me they needed my car while i waited for my jeep to be built because in the 6 weeks it was gonna take they were giving me such a "deal" the price would drop, BS walked right out, the dealer i went with said that as long as my cars comes back the same way i brought it to them the first time with under like 2000 miles in two months i was good, signed papers saying i was gonna get x amount when i picked up the jk, and i did exactly that, also if your planning on trading in, try and sell it while your waiting for you jeep to arrive, youll make more money selling it on your own and all you have to do is pay the dealer the difference it doesnt matter to them if they get the money or your car.

This may depend if your state calculates the sales tax before or after the trade in is applied. In MA the sales tax is calculated after the trade in value has been applied. This could amount to saving a few hundred bucks by taking a hit on the trade in vs private sale. I got a trade of 18,500 on my old vehicle. To make it worth my while, I would have to sell it for $20,000 to make up the difference in sales tax I would have had to pay

When I ordered mine my dealer gave me all the numbers on the newly ordered JKU and the trade. I live almost 800 miles from my selling dealer and took a trip to upstate NY during the wait and put approx 3K miles on it. No problems at all. No deposit either.

The dealer gave me a price for mine when I ordered. No money down, in fact they said no obligation, they wanted me to like it before we took it (that was a no brainer). Took 5 weeks and no problem, same trade price.

Well I wasn't thrilled with how our order went down but here is what we did. Went throught USAA. Used the dealer with the best price. $500 below invoice plus $1000 off from USAA. Went in and said this is our trade in what will you give me for it if I order a new Jeep. I was given a quote. We ordered the Jeep. When it came in we completed the deal at the agreed to prices. There was some shaded dealing because we were from out of state but the deal was managable. We did do a $500 deposit as expected.

Same as most - got a trade value for my 09 JK for much higher than I was expecting, got a decent price for the 12 JKU (very decent when considering the trade-in) gave them $500 and they said just don't go nuts on the trade in in the meantime - I put 2000 miles on in 7 weeks and good to go.

Well I finally got it. Ordered it 09JAN and it showed up today unexpectedly on the projected ship date. I'll have to start a new thread about it soon. Just wanted to put up a pic because I'm super stoked!
