questions about cabin insulation

Hi guys?

I am a new to this site, so please correct me if i am posting existing topics for 2012 cabin insulation thing and lots more that i am concerned

I have finally desided to purchase Sahara edition of 2012 unlimited but few things stricking my mind before the payment. (i live out of US and no goodies such as financial support from bank) just cash left and right...

first-the insulation, it get's really (i mean really cold) cold in winter times in Mongolia and i doubt the factory insulation (which i found to be almost non existent) thanks to removable top... is there anyone in alaska (close to mongolian weather) having no problems with insulation from dust and cold? dust is also problem during summer specially in gobi region.

Second-cruising range, not because i am worried about the $ on gas but we have far lesser gas stations in between the destinations and this is cruitial not to carry cannisters full of flamable in or on the vehicle... and i have two toddlers willing to try out everything. 22.6 gal loosely translates to 85 liters and 16-20 MPG is like 14-18 liter per 100km.
so range would be like anywhere from 400-550km depending on driving habbit. I am so used to diesel truck range minimum 800km on one tank so jeep figures really scares me.

Third-we have a local dealer here charging 49,000$ for Sahara edition and this is non-sense since i know how much it costs with full options from US. even adding TAX and shipping cost, i will be paying far less than that.
so do any of you guys run or work for dealers close to 94577 (zip code) so i can have the cargo company to pick up... (just taking my chanses) hehe
or atleast know of any diesent dealers around the area?

Third and final- i had no problem purchasing my diesel UV and toyota accessories are easlily available in Mongolia but it seems there are few options for Jeep accessories atleast in Mongolia. how do you guys install roof rack on removable top? i searched for gobi ranger products and liked it but will also need to buy out of US. any suggestions?

thank you for reading and please help me find a good deal from US?

Regards Gantulga

You can add insulation to the hardtop. You'll be pleased to know that the heater is excellent.

Thank you for your suggestion daggo66

I have made 6PM appointment today for a dest drive. i will thoroughy check for insulation and any possible roof leak points. it's not that common to see Wranglers on the streets of UB and FJ cruiser... so i will need to carefully study the pros and cons of both vehicles before i do the purchase which i wont be doing by myself.

I know a dealer in So Cal that would probably be willing to work with you if you decide to buy.

This is true. I have only used my heater once living in FL and damn you could have the top off while its snowing out and you would still be hot with it fully cranked.

Thank you all guys, can i have dealer install auxilary tank and some major lifts and power winch etc...? i am currious as to how the dealers would handle these mods without buyer supervision. In Mongolia, dealers or workshops most likely to cheat when owner or buyer is not around.
Winter here is like -40c day and drops to -50 night and Ulaanbaatar is officially the coldest capital with mean temp of -2c. so keeping my toddlers harm and cozy is important.
also the relibility, i figure with jeep badge dangling on the front tells it all.

Alarming find...

I have just found out that FJ cruiser does not come with fuel filtering system. and i quickly searched for 2012 model unlimited and did not find any mention about the fuel filter either.
fuel (gasoline) filter is taken for granted and that it's always changed on seasonal fluid service. We have poor quality gas oil so filters are a must.

Both US-spec versions of the JK and FJ have fuel filters.

I will comment on the heater...it is the ONLY car I have ever been in (and I've been in most) that when the motor is fully warm, and the heat is on the highest temp setting, it is SO HOT, that you cannot keep your hand near the airvents for more than 2-3 seconds. I was actually surprised the plastic didn't melt, that's how hot it is.

Update

I have performed the test drive at last... once and for all, leak and insulation concerns i had is now gone. now comes the pentastar engine performance and relibility
this will be my next learning through existing threads.

so far, i am more leaning towards Jeep than FJ

Consider this thread resolved and closed

thank you all for your great suggestions
