Questions about xhd winch bumper

Alright gang, did some searching and couldn't find much about it. I bought a rugged ridge winch mount base bumper, and Ive had it installed for a while. I finally got the funds up to buy a new winch, and it comes today. Can I install this winch on the bumper after its on my jeep, or do I have to drop it to install. If anyone has accomplished this let me know. I'll also post pics of the jeep after install. Thanks!

Drop the bumper- it'll be a LOT less of a hassle. Have a friend or a pair of jacks to help, or be ready to throw your back out! Winch and bumper will weigh well over 100 lbs. together. Take the bumper off, install the winch, install the wiring, then re-install the winch/bumper, and zip on the connectors (electrical), and enjoy! Mark W.

If you loosen the 4 d-ring bolts on each side almost all the way out, you will be able to slide the xhd out from the grill and get to everything to do the winch install. It is easier to take it off and have a friend help you lift them both up and on.

I will also vote for removal. I just put mine on and did the winch install first and then mounted the bumper. Easy as pie with a friend to help toss it up on the frame horns. The longest part of the install was bolting the ends on the base bumper.
