Quick review - Hella Vision Plus & Raxiom LED conversion bulbs (pics inside)

Everyone knows the stock headlights suck. Upgrade time.

I originally wanted to get the Hella Vision Plus & Philips X-treme Power combo but seller sent the wrong bulbs. Returned it and took this opportunity to try LEDs instead - and since Raxiom has a good reputation I thought I'd go that route. Got the H4 bulbs to fit in my Hella housings.

I didn't have too much time tonight so I just installed one. It was a good way to see a side-by-side of the beam pattern, which I was skeptical about prior to the purchase.

The build quality seems pretty solid. Aluminum body for the win. This is a plug&play kit that includes the ballasts and H4 wiring harness. (For JKs you have to also convert from H13). The plastic connector from the bulb to the ballast is kind of questionable, on side if the clip broke off when I plugged them together. I can easily tape them together, but it was something I was not expecting from a quality maker.

Side-by-side comparison between the LED bulb (L) and factory bulb (R). Definitely much brighter! I drove down a very dimly lit road and just this one bulb upgrade made a difference. I think once the other bulb is put in, the total output would be about 150% of the factory bulbs. I'll update this once I find out.

I think this is what people were saying about the light bouncing in odd spots. I haven't seen any photos about this before in my research, just people claiming "they suck". But I had to see it for myself. There are some arcs of light that shoot upwards, but not very much. I'm not sure what to think about this yet but I'll do further testing to see if it would affect oncoming traffic.

Now, before anyone asks "why not just get the premade LED housings?" Well, I already bought the Hella housings, and the LED conversion came after. Secondly, I wanted something with a factory appearance since I live in a not so great part of town and am trying to maximize my anti-theft. There are some on the market that do look closer to factory than others but they are out of my budget. I will consider those maybe somewhere down the line.

Zammy,

I just got these and noticed I can install them in different orientations. I haven't been able to find a reference for what is correct (low beam LED up, down, center, outer) and the light pattern changes somewhat for position to position but nothing stands out as better than another.

Maybe the answer is obvious but I have never done a light upgrade before so thanks for any help.
