Rails that also have steps?

I'm considering the Ace rails because I need something that can be used as a step for the wife and kids.

Any other sliders that can also be used as a step? Mostly looking for something I might be able to find if I can't find the Ace rails local. I really don't want to pay the $100 shipping.

A black '12 JKU, huh? Nice color choice.

Don't know if you're set on REAL rock rails, or side steps that can also do light duty as rock rails, so I'm sending you a hodgepodge of info / links. I'm guessing that if you want the steps to help your wife and kids the protection part is secondary. Also assuming that, since you wanna avoid the $100 shipping fee, you wouldn't be interested in the pricier versions.

All that said:

ACE is the most popular brand on this forum, but you've also got ARB, Rugged Ridge, Smittybilt, Rock Hard...

Here are some links. They all come from Quadratec, since it's like fishing in a bucket with 5 large bass in it. Always find what you're lookin for.

Best way to find what you want locally is to go to each Q page, write down the mfr part # (usually below the quadratec part #), then do a local Google search.

Good luck.

I have Body Armor Rockcrawler Side Guards. They also work as steps. I really like them. I put some skateboard grip tape on top to keep from slipping off.

If you talk to the Quadratec guy here on the forum, he can hook you up with free shipping!

Here's some pics of mine:

I have the Rugged Ridge rails and they're great...as a step and protection on the trail.

The ACE Sliders work well as a step and protection for the rockers. Especially when you add some grip tape to the top of them!

So, is the shipping what is killing it for you? We have them at 5% off right now and our shipping usually comes up cheaper than going stright from ACE. Might want to look at see...

I believe I received my Ace Rock Rails for a total price of $301 in PA for the JKU. Anyone else going to make that price point with a lifetime warranty? I put the 3M step tape on them just to prevent any slipping when they were wet. They have a fairly textured finish, so not sure if I needed the tape.

Talk with Jason from Krawl Off, he may be able to provide a deal.

I love them, even with a modest lift (2.5) and 33s" I use them as a step, and I'm just over 6'. All that said, they are also really good rock rails

Teraflex sliders/steps are nice too. They are aluminum so not overly heavy either.

I like the looks of the Rugged Ridge over the ACE. Does anyone one have experience with both where they can give a fair review of the two?

I doubt it! I paid over twice that for my LoD's because I liked the style better but bang for the buck ACE wins hands down. I think folks need to look at total price shipped to your door vs shipping separtely. At the end of the day what do they cost to put on? I could care less if shipping was $300 and they sold me the sliders for $1 its still $301 out of my pocket just my opinion

I've been using my ACE rails 'naked' in different weather for a few weeks since I installed them, and I will be picking up some 3M tape the next time I'm around Home Depot. Just my $0.02

I have the Rugged Rudge RRC Side Armor, very easy install, very sturdy and have taken more than a few hits on the trail so far. However I hear the ACE rails are similarly easy to install. They both have steps built in too.

Definitely trying to keep the budget close to what the Ace rails go for, so looks like around $400 shipped for the Ace. Normally I would be paying for stuff like this out of the Jeep/Poker fund. However, my wife is picking up the tab with the condition that they MUST double as a step.

Looks like lots of options, I'll check all these out and see what local place carry so I can avoid paying shipping.

I like the Rugged Ridge and some of the Smitty built.

Another question is if any of them will fit with the Rubi rails on? I picked up a set of the Rubi rails already because I got a good deal on them ($125). At that price, I figure I can sell them for what I paid if necessary.

Liking these too! Definitely within my budget.

The Rugged Ridge will fit over the rubi rails. Pretty sure the ACE will too, but not positive

I have Ace sliders & love em. Even with the hundred bones for shipping they are still less expensive than those you can pick up in town on your way home from work.

Was on the fence about the ACE rails to go over my Rubirails, but I too balked at the ~$400 total.

I like the look of those Smittybilt's so ordered them - the deal-maker was that I got them for $270 including shipping. Just checked, same price still available at truckcustomizers dot com. They were delivered in less than a week.

Anyone have the Smittybilt on a 2 dr that they could post oics of. Amazon has them for $299 free shipping and the 4 dr looks good but even the 2 dr ad shows the 4 dr rails or it shows a view that doesn't give a good profile. Like to see how the step looks like and how it looks on the Jeep.
