The TJ top is somewhat different than the JK. You might get some better answers by posting your question in the TJ section.

I have an 08 JK 2dr and have the same problem. I don't raise it from the sides. I'm able to raise it from the back. Hands on both bars and I push it up and over. Once I get here it rest and the rest is easy. I'm also 6'6 so I have an advantage.
