I want a more aggressive looking bumper. I am pretty annoyed they listed the bumper as "winch ready" when in fact it is not. I need to buy a custom AEV winch plate and fairlead plate for another $265 before I can put on a winch.

Hopefully I can sell the AEV after the fact. I should be able to. I have seen soe go for $800 or more.

Good point. I'm sure you can sell it. That's why I hate AEV. They nickel and dime you to death for everything.

Hello,
Thank you for sending me this link. The factory hitch does not work with our bumpers (which you’ve already found out via that thread). Due to the design of the factory hitch and how we wanted the bumper to be secured to the back of the Jeep, there was not feasible way for them to coexist. Which is why we produce our own hitch. Our hitch is not rated for towing but I can say that it’s plenty strong enough to utilize it as an extraction point, storage racks, bike racks, etc. Being that it has not be rated, I am unable to say that it can be used for towing on public roadways.

At this time there are no planned revisions to the bumper; though there is scuttlebutt of a new bumper line coming out in the future and if we do in fact expand the line, the factory hitch will definitely be a consideration.

Thank you for your time and input.

Thank you,

Jake Headlee

I am still trying to find out if the FRONT bumper is approved for flat towing the jeep behind a motor home.

I don't know much about flat towing but I was under the impression you need a special hitch for that. I don't think you flat tow from the bumper.

They may not know. Their local # is 951-277-4949- no 800 number. Just ask for Jake or anyone in sales- you'll get a quick response that way.

Most aftermarket bumpers are "not rated" because of the cost involved. Imagine what it would cost to certify a bumper to be rated to X towing capacity.

Jaker- can you send me the guys info. that did the custom adder to the front bumper? I've talked to him before but I can't find his email or remember the website/company for the life of me. I want to see if he can do a bumper/tire carrier combo. My rear tailgate is looking a little....bent.

I haven't been able to find one that bolts up directly, but would be interested in one if someone finds one. I *think* someone was using a body armor skid with it, but I don't remember if they modified it or not.

Body Armor. Cut to fit into the shape of the bumper. Wouldn't recommend. Took several cuts to get it "Perfect". Then its so close we had to add rubber gasket to the cut edge and extra washers so the skid wouldnt cut into the bumper. Silly to damage your bumper by a $100 skid plate. That said; on my last rock crawling trail I beat the crap out of the B.A Skid; so its handy. Happy I had it.

2nd photo didn't load. Should mention another poster was able to cut to fit pretty easily. I think we were trying to get it too close.

In regards to the flat socket head bolts needed for the winch plate, check your local ACE Hardware. The one near me had them various sizes ranging from m8 to m14/1.5 x 80 10.9 grade with a black oxide finish. I did not check if they had SAE sized ones.

So sad.
Was taking a better shot of the cut-edge of the Body Armor skid- and realized I did get the front bumper on my last trip out. A moment of silence please. I know what I'll be doing this weekend.
(But note that if I had a stubby I'd still have hit the same edge).

After waiting over 3 months for my bumper to arrive from TruckAddOns (too good of a price to pass up on), I finally got it installed. I got it to fit, but only after shaving down the front frame so I could slide it on. It seemed like the bumper slid right on for most of you, but mine would not fit without shaving down the inside of the frame rails, right next to where the bolts go. Don't know why mine was different, but overall I'm pretty happy with the front bumper.

Jeeps are all unique. Yah, Jeep makes them all different on purpose....that's it. Its not a quality issue at all.

No skylights, i think it's just the light reflection of the garage door windows. It makes me feel guilty parking in there when the jeep is all dirty...

So did anyone come to a conclusion on the best way to mount the Warn Zeon winch? I'm about to order one and I don't feel like drilling into the bumper, and I'm not sure ifs like the idea of mounting washers underneath. Any input is appreciated!

You can do it with longer bolts and use a grade 8 nut as a spacer. It will still be a small hassle. If you want a direct bolt on, look at another winch, like the CTi. My warn zeon took quite a bit of fitting and swearing to get on. Im happy with the results, but it took 1.5 days and several trips to HDepot.

I placed the order today so it looks like I'll have to look into the longer bolts and the grade 8 nut..I'll post pics up when I get it installed. Thanks for the help

Don't waste your money ordering things. Wait until you get the winch, take it out of the box, grab your winch plate, do a dry fit, and you will see all the problems. THEN, decide what route you want to go, and come back here and we can talk about em.

Well here it is. Pretty easy install. But for anyone with the bumper who wants to put a winch on it, the bolts that came with it aren't long enough so I just went to the store and bought longer ones. The bumper looks much better with it on, and it seems very solid and I feel safe with any and all recoveries I will be performing. As for the rake, it's a pretty long story, but I will sum it up. My jeep is a 4 door with the hard top and HD factory suspension, so I had stock 59 rear springs but 16 front coils. My jeep sat high in the rear, and regular height in the front, but it looked super raked (as some of you may remember) so after adding the bumper and losing an additional .5" in the front, I decided my best route was to install OME HD springs for the front. For anyone who was interested in trying to remove the rake of their jeep after installing this bumper, THIS was the solution. After installing the front coils and letting them settle, my jeep sat about .5" higher in the front than the rear, but it looked great and MUCH better than the stock rake. Being 2.5" higher in the front makes this bumper really look the way it should, and now with the addition of the winch, it sits 100% level, and has a great "lifted" look and i feel much more in control of the jeep, as opposed to letting the nose dive of the jeep through me off. Let me know if you guys have questions because I've been researching a long time about getting rid of the rake and I'm glad I went this route.

So this is what happens to the Rampage Recovery front bumper when a deer's head hits it at ~65 mph:

The answer is a SCRATCH. Wish I could say the same for the deer...

Eek. Assume you're ok? Not much question about the deer. Not surprised the bumper held up. If you had a stubby...point one for mid to full length bumpers!
