Rancho rear bumper tire carrier combo weight

I've been trying to find a low weight option for a rear tire carrier.

I asked Quadratec and they told me that Rancho RS6221B - Rancho® RockGEAR™ Rear Off Road Bumper with Tire Carrier for 07-13 Jeep® Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK - Quadratec

weighs 96 lbs

The stock rear bumper weighs 15lbs and the stock carrier weighs 4lbs. So the difference between the Rancho bumper/carrier and stock bumper gate carrier is 77lbs

I've seen a "front bumper weight" thread. I've searched for a "rear bumper / carrier" weight thread with no success. Can someone point me to such data?

I actually just installed this 2 weeks ago. As far as weight goes its pretty dang light. Installed it myself in well under an hour. Swear my rear tire felt heavier than the dang bumper

I've been looking at this and their front bumper too. The prices are great, but the front bumper has a huge Rancho logo stamped on it that I'm not a fan of. The pics of the rear bumper doesn't seem to have any markings on it. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks

Looks like it has Rancho stamped into the top. Visible when the carrier is pulled back, otherwise hidden.

I called Rancho and they told me the standard bumper carrier weighed 93lbs and their new one with the gate connected swing out weighs 112lbs.

One thing the Rancho tech guy told me that I think is important is that the standard bumper carrier will not allow the gate to open all the way to the gate stop (for 2011+ JKs). The newer one does allow the gate to open all the way.

He also said the old model will eventually start to rattle. He didn't have enough experience with the new one to say whether it would or not.

I have the new style on my JK, a lot of highway on it and off roading in Moab, no rattle. The only time I hear rattle is when I heard my son's t-ball bats rattling around in the gear bag. Also the hi-jack mounted rattles a bit, but not the actual bumper.

On the latest front bumper, it has a small Rancho logo. I don't know what stock our retailers will have in stock old or new...

I can get more pics of the rear as well.

On the new style bumper, you can see the logo here:

This is my JKU, I will be running a beadlock soon (for a 37" tire) without any concerns. We run a beadlocked 37's on our JK-8.

I have one and like it. It does rattle a bit, but that my be the HiLift jack.

Sorry no pics of it opened up. It will stop the tailgate from opening fully. When you swing the tire out, it whill eventually bump against the passengers side taillight. Then when you open the tailgate it will stop before opening, by bumper the bumper. Mine is stopped a bit earlier because it will bump the jack. Probably open to about 80 degrees, which is plenty for getting my stuff out. The pin that holds it closed was really tight and a pain to use. I ended up finding a long Masterlock with rubber on the top, that fit. I works great and give a small bit of security, as it makes it harder to get to the jack bolts, with the carrier closed.

Only thing is now that I see the new model I want it. The only thing I wish mine had, was a connection to the tailgate, like the new version, to make it easier to open.

Where can you buy the new style rear? Rancho website and other retailers only show old style...

The P/N is RS6235B for the new style bumper.
The 3rd brake light option P/N RS6238 is a cool little light.

The new bumper carrier looks good.

In the installation instructions it mentions an adapter for stock wheels and I assume without the spacer it works with 4.5" backspacing My Procomp wheels have 4.75" backspacing. Will I need a custom spacer and lugs?

I do not foresee this as an issue.

Can you post some pictures of the bumper with the carrier open but the tailgate closed? Or does this bumper even do that?

Quadratec has 2 Rancho rear bumpers with tire carrier..

Rancho® RockGEAR™ Rear Off Road Bumper with Tire Carrier

For 07-14 Jeep® Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK

Quadratec Part No: 12148.200
Manufacturer Part No: RS6221B

for $499.99

and

Rancho® RockGEAR™ Rear Bumper Tire Carrier

For 07-14 Jeep® Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK

Quadratec Part No: 12148.2002

for $949.99

Why such a large difference in price? I'm assuming this is the new vrs. old versions with the attachment to open the tailgate with the tire carrier.

What's the differences here to justify almost twice the price?

Can whatever parts differences for the $949.99 version be purchased separately to "upgrade" the 499 version?

$499 is reasonable. $949 not so much IMO.

Thanks

$949 is relatively high for what you can find it for. The $499 is about what that one goes for everywhere. I got my integrated for $780 shipped from Amazon. I've seen it for $830 on 4wheelparts or something. Call a vendor on the phone and get a quote, definitely don't pay $950.

Was that for the new version that swings with the tailgate or swings separately?

There is no easy way to retrofit the lower price bumper to the swing out style bumper. The difference is there is a lot more going on with the swing out style. Heims, the backing plate, etc...

Compare our swing out tire carrier to others, and you will see the value immediately.

I have been doing some comparisons for a while now, and in particularly looking at ACE's bumper/carrier:

It's less expensive and seems to have more to it in regards to how it's constructed, the swing arm bushing, options for back up lights, etc.

I'm not knocking Rancho's bumper, it looks like a nice piece as well, but I'm just trying to figure out what justification there is for a higher price than some competitors in the same class.

Looking theirs over they seem to be MORE expensive than ours... in general.

We offer an integratted CB/flag mount...
We offer a Hi-Lift Jack mount...
We offer (as an option) a LED brake light..

The spindle is nice, but we have been utilizing our style for years without any issues.

That was for the swing-out version.

Kicking up an old thread. Interested in this bumper but absolutely hate how far it sticks out. Is they anyway to get it more sucked in? Perhaps make some cuts like the Poison Spyder BFH? Itd be nice if it butted up against the factory bump stops or close to them.
