Rattle in Rear Tailgate 2012 JKU

SO...I have a pretty nasty rattle of some sort coming from the rear tailgate area of the Jeep. Its tough to pinpoint it myself while driving, but It sounds as though it's coming from the passenger side of the tailgate area. any ideas? I had it at the dealership and the said they "tightened a few bolts" back there but it didnt help anything. None of the strike plates are loose or anything like that.

Any ideas what could be causing this or what I could do to troubleshoot the noise? It's just an annoyance to hear while driving...but turning the radio up works as a quick fix

Check:

Spare wheel lugs/tighten
Spare hinge bolts/tighten

Do you have the hard top on? I had an annoying rattle in the same area on my 09 2-door Sahara. I found I could push the electrical plug that goes in the rear pillar of the hard top (driver side) in farther than it was. I couldn't believe that could cause so much noise, but after reseating it, the rattle was gone and never came back. Something to try. Guessing it has the same plug on the Unlimited.

I have the same thing. I've pinpointed it to the tailgate stop limiter. I tightened all the hardware and lubed it. It's a lot better, but it's still. there. I'll probably get a Terraflex hinge then remove the offending piece.

sorry, should have specified that I'm running my soft top. I'll be putting the hard top back on a couple months so i can see if that itself makes any difference because i dont remember a rattle the last time I was running the hard top. it seems like its been since i put on the soft top. I've tried adjusting some of the strike plates and bumpers by I cant even budge them

Check the rear tailgate bar for the soft top window. You may still be hearing it rattle a bit, using sticky foam or felt can help in a metal to metal rattle. Plasti-dip can help too.
