Rattle Noises

I have an '08 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. It is my first Jeep so I am not sure what to expect from it. Such as how much ratteling noise would be considered normal for a Jeep? I hear some vibrating / minor rattling that sounds like it is coming from behind the dashboard. I don't even have to be off road, you can hear that just from the small bumps in the pavement. Also the door pillars; where the seat belts run through, rattle alot. But for those to rattle It does have to be some good potholes or speed bumps. I don't think a vehicle this new should have that much noise, but I understand the quirkiness of the Jeep if this could be considered normal.
Other than that I love driving my Jeep. It is a blast to drive. Even though I owned a Chevy Tahoe before, I don't mind the rougher ride and less power of the Jeep. Once I put it in four wheel drive it feels like I can drive anywhere. I don't even think it is as slow as I have heard. And my hard top has not leaked yet and I have been caught in pretty bad weather.
Thanks for any info and/or advice.

Rattles, squeaking noises, etc.. are inherent to our Jeeps..They can be tackled one by one..
Behind the dashboard.. Be sure no pencils and other smaller objects are falling down in the black hole at the bottom inside of the windshield.. Fill this gap up with some copper tubing closed cell pipe insulation.
B pillar rattles...Be sure the door surrounds are tightened properly and last but not least use some white lithium grease to lubricate the door latch catch plate striker contact surfaces.

After a while you will learn a lot about how to address all these "inconveniences"..

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your Jeep..

My seatbelt mechanism or there abouts on the driver side rattles over repetitive bumps in the road. I haven't heard any fixes for this yet but it is still under warranty and kinda want the dealer to fix it. I just haven't applied enough pressure yet.

Door Latch, that's what it was. And the other rattlr heppened to be the hoses for the A/C; Tied them together with zip ties and no more annoying vibrations.

I love this Jeep even when those minor things were bangin around. Thank guys for the info..

For what sounds like a noise coming from the door pillar area....take a 2 inch strip of duct tape or black electrical tape (rip the duct into a 1/2 inch x 2 inch strip). Wrap it around the closest short leg (closest to you standing facing the door opening). Wrap it tight a few times around. Duct tape blends in and you don't even see it. Guarantee that this simple silly fix will get rid of the noise. do all 3 or 5 door latches including the rear to be sure. Sound silly and like it would wear out but it lasts a long time....and easy to replace.

the noise is caused by the latch rattling on the striker. The only other solution is to play with adjusting the striker but I have not heard of success in getting this right.

Great fix !!!!! I thought the B pillar was rattling, never guest it was the door. Put duct tape on, went for a drive and what a difference. thanks for the tip !!!!
