Rattling, misc noises and mechanical problems under warranty

Hello guys and gals.

My biggest pet peeve with cars is rattling when driving. Like when going over a bump or a crack in the road you here a popping noise, or rubbing, or a crack. How much of that have you guys noticed with your new jeeps? Have you been able to fix it, if so was it as simple as tightening a screw? If you went to the dealer, have they been able to fix any annoying noises, and did they come back after a while?

The other thing I want to ask is, how much time do you spend at the garage for mechanical problems? Transmission not going into gear, or popping out, warning lights on the dash, vibrations in the wheels or steering, engine problems. You get my drift. And how many of these repairs have you guys done under warranty?

I'm asking this because I will install a lift kit, regear, bigger wheels, and so on, which will most likely void some of my warranty. I wouldn't want to be stuck paying for a manufacturer defect that is clearly not the cause of any mods I make, but that the dealer refuses to repair because of the mods.

Thanks for all your input guys

My Charger is like a rock compared to my Jeep but it's the nature of the beast.

Taking issues like this to the dealer seem to rarely get resolved because of they are very hard to track down. I just turn the stereo louder.

Well I've had some success in the past with dealers changing paneling in the car because they came loose.

Good thing a Jeep isn't a car or you would have serious problem.

I can't think of a single Jeep that, when used properly, doesn't shake rattle and roll. Ha ha ha!

The only warranty issue that I have had is a leaking rear axle seal. I don't think that they would have fixed it if I had make any modifications to the suspension. My warranty is the reason that my Jeep suspension is still stock. I'm almost excited to have the warranty expire.

No more rattles than my diesel trucks of the past. My Jeep is new 2010 and only has 10,000 miles but have had no issues what so ever.

My '01 had never been offroad till I bought it, but it just did have (still does) some squeaks that are just inherent to any vehicle, afaik.... Now she has more, cause we take her out and bend her and stretch her in the ways she was built to be used Noticed yesterday that my roll bar is pretty creaky when she's twisted a bit... But it's a Jeep, not a Bentley... it will make noise. That's why we take the tops off, and put loud tires on em, then we don't hear it...

hahaha thanks for the input guys!

I'm planning on doing about 6000-10'000 miles with no mods on it, and beat it as hard as I can. If it holds together then I should be ok to break the warranty. Obviously there are chances that things will break later on, but usually most things break early on... I hope anyway

My 2011 has had rattles since the 2nd day.. The first day I was so excited about having a jeep that I was driving with the top off and music up couldn't hear a thing, but the air... 2nd day when back to reality top up I noticed all sorts of noises, they appear to be about the same, however some days I don't notice anything and other days I notices every single noise perhaps I tune and tune out. Mine rattles tho, don't want to bring it to the dealer cause you can never duplicate them for a mechanic so I deal with it... Does your have alot of rattles and have you had them since day one??? Mine seem to come from the plastic in the wheel wells so I think and the fenders.. I am assuming thats where they come from cause thats the only things on the car that seem to have loads of play in them...

My hard top creaks occasionally and I either give a little turn on the knobs that tighten them down more or turn the stereo up more. Then after I turn the stereo up a lot the hard top rattles and something that sounds to be in the roll bar next to my ear. Other than that it's just stuff bouncing around in the glove box. If I'm really picky I can hear my hitch and tools rattling in the storage compartment behind the rear seat. You will hear what you try to hear and the service department will tell you that it's normal.

Chances are that the rattles I hear are all caused by myself, from speaker crossovers, ipod in glovebox, stereo adapter in dash, change in console, tools, or a cup rolling and tapping the seat frame. This isn't a Lexus, things are bound to loosen up after bouncing, banging, and twisting on the trails.

the noise on the driver side by my left ear was a door adjustment, three out of four with 14k miles. i also had the trans not engage and got the typical jeep answer (sorry we were not able to duplicate the problem and never will) i have a 4" lift and 37" tires and it has never had any effect on any warranty service. the service adviser said that the biggest problem on warranty are computer programs. hope that helps. i own a '12 unlimited rubi.
