Ready to lift the new jeep

I just bought my wife a new 13 unlimited. She is wanting it fixed up now, since she saw the lifted ones that the dealer sales. They send all of theirs down the street to 4wheel parts and lift them with a 2.5" pro comp lift and slap some 35's on them. I didnt realize till the next day when I was looking at the sticker that we have the 3.21's. I plan on a Tera Flex 2.5" lift with the black Pro Comp 7031's. I dont know a lot about the jeeps, other than the 13 is a lot nicer of vehicle than the lifted 01 I had, this thing rides like a passenger car. I guess what all will I need other than the lift. I hear some talking about the sway bars and track bars, do these need to be upgraded or will the stock equipment be ok. I was set on 35's till I learned of having the 3.21. This thing is on the street 95% of the time. It will not be an extreme off road vehicle. It will see some but nothing extreme. I have searched 35's and the 3.21 but most results are with the 6 speed, ours is an auto. Im not sure if they will be ok or if i should re gear to 3.73, 4.10 or 4.56 if i plan on 35's. If i go with 33's I would probably stay with the 3.21. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have a 13 Unlimited auto w/3.21 3 inch lift and 35`s on 18 XD`s. I do have 3 other vehicles and 2 of those can satisfied my addiction for more torque so the 3.21 gets it done for me. If I feel the transmission start to lug I just tap the shifter for a lower gear. I don`t off road so the combination works for me. The 4.10 would probably be my 1st choice for a regear but currently can`t justify the cost of a regear. Gas mileage is also tolerable. Jmo

Rock Krawler, tera flex, or aev. Which one is a turn key package. I dont want to buy a lift and have to buy a bunch of add ons to make it right. I have been reading on here for hours and couldnt be any more confused.

Teraflex 2.5"coil with shock adaptors is perfect. Around $500 retail but pm vendors and you can get cheaper. If your running stock wheels on most kits you will need wheel spacers to clear the sway bars. Extra $100-200 depending on brand (don't cheap on that)

Just outta curiosity, is there anything wrong with a Pro Comp lift? I've heard tons of positive about Teraflex's 2.5" on here and other forums, but before knowing of Teraflex I was going for the Pro Comp 4" lift (that is until I heard about all the other stuff I'd have to upgrade due to 4" lift). I'm in the same boat as OP and don't know a whole lot about jeeps. Just bought my first one (2011 Sahara Unlimited) a week ago.

If you don't know much, wait a while and keep learning. Drive in a few lifted Jeeps with different kits. Teraflex, Rock Krawler, and AEV, are popular but if I were doing it again, I'd go Metalcloak for my 2-door. All the kits are pretty good for a 4-door. A lighter 2-door is not something most design for. They simply use the same coils and (sometimes) lighter-valved shocks to compensate. I have not hear anything about Pro Comp, so cannot comment much.

Yeah, I've been researching MC hard, however I'm completely stock. Most threads on here have stated I'd get almost 4" of lift from a 2.5" MC kit without added weight. Aftermarket bumper and a winch are definitely in my future, but not in the budget right now.

I've been trying to decide for some time now while I save for my lift .. Anyone know why MC go's from front upper CA to all eight in there kits.. And RK has front and rear lowers to all eight.. TF has front lowers and rear uppers or all eight... I'm confused if I don't want all eight what CA are the best to have?
Not trying to hijack this thread but was trying to find some info

Does metalcloak sale a complete kit ( shocks and all) or do you have to purchase the shocks separately. How is the ride in a metalcloak lifted 4 door. I have just about made up my mind on the teraflex, but who knows. Where does one purchase a metal cloak lift, direct from them?

You get it with or without shocks

It's all about geometry of the lift. I have rubicon express lift on my jeep and they use camber adjustments to correct for CA's. great kit, cheap but for articulation you need more then that. CAs give you articulation and adjustability for geometry. When you move the axle further from the vehicle you have to tilt the axle shaft back up to correct the angle you can do this 4 ways.
Adjustable camber bolts. Articulation poor
Lower CAs. Articulation better
Upper CAs. Articulation ok.
Upper and lower CAs articulation much better.

If you read through this whole thread http://www.jkowners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=71064. It really explains all of this.

The MC CAs allow you a straight bolt on kit that works great and allows you upgrade components later without throwing away old parts you bought.

Thanks for the info and the link to the other thread ... Sounds like to get the best on and off road handling you need all eight arms. Witch I was trying to avoid . But I'm all about doing it right the first time.

You are correct 8 would be the best but unless your going heavy, extreme off roading right away you start with 4 (MC dual rate kit) and as your offroading and budget increase add the other components later.

My self as an example I didn't really think I needed all that extra articulation for my driving habits so I bought a Rubicon express budget kit. It works well but is limited. For my wife's jeep I just built I put a Metal Cloak Dual Rate kit with ARB shocks because I like the MC stuff and wanted to see what it was about. And I love how much better it rides and performs over the Rubicon Express. Now I am upgrading my lift to the Metal Cloak Game Changer with 6pack shocks because I want the best ride and articulation I can get without going to a long arm kit and really F@cking up the driveline and geometry and dropping 2-3 grand to readjust it all.

The MC dual rate kit only comes with front upper CA.. That's where I'm confused .. What about the rear should I get upper ca for the rear or lowers..
I won't be rock crawling but I could get pretty twisted up crossing creeks ... I don't really want to spend 2g on a lift but I want my geometry to be right so it rides good on the road..

With the dual rate, it comes with the rear trackbar relocation bracket which recenters your axle. At that point your fine for the rear. And the front upper CAs will correct your front camber.

Is MC's intention to center the axle or correct roll center with the rear bracket ?

I not speaking on intentions, as I did not design the equipment however the track bar is for maintaining center of axle track.

When the vehicle experiences angular acceleration due to cornering, the force, combined with the stiffness of the springs and anti-sway bars dictates how much the vehicle will roll.

By moving the track bar up it returns it to its "factory geometry" and I'm sure does play some into vehicle roll. But again I am not an engineer. I'm sure Matson could definitively answer it.

You are exactly correct. After 4" it really matters. The biggest issue with the rear drive shaft is moving the skid plate for the evap canister over an inch so the drive shaft does not hit it on extreme flex.
