I have a "thing" where I don't really trust the welded in D-ring tabs on most bumpers. I've managed to find a front bumper that has bolt-through-the-frame D-ring mounts that replace the tow hooks. I plan on using Maxumus-3's rear d-ring mounts that attach directly to the factory tow points. Are there any decent rear bumpers (full width, no tire carrier) that DON'T have D-ring tabs on them?
I think you'll have a hard time finding one without them. I'd look locally for a Jeep or 4x4 shop that does custom work. I'm sure they have a bumper design and will gladly make you one with out the tabs. If not, you don't have to use the tabs if you don't want to of course.
I'm also curious about what you don't trust about them.
Here's what Rock Hard says about their tabs: Welded on heavy duty recovery shackle tabs. Our tabs are welded onto the face, travel through the bumper, and are again welded onto the backside of the bumper's skin. This is standard Rock Hard 4x4 ingenuity and simply not offered by other manufacturers.
Looks really clean, though i have a question: I see no hitch and no tow hooks. How do you get by with no recovery points in the rear? Am I missing something? I would be pretty annoyed if I was wheeling with a buddy who, in my opinion, is unprepared.:jawdrop:
I run VKS Rear d-ring mounts, they sit inside the frame rails and have two bolts that go through to secure them. If you aren't a fan of the bumperless look you can also get their rear frame cap and everything cleans up nicely!
@Cummins_Powered ... i'm aware. I have a tow strap when I go wheeling. that can be strapped to the rear frame. If I don't have the strap, I can use my winch line and run it around the same area and be pulled out from that.
Take a look at Genright Fusion JK Rear Bumper | GenRight Jeep Parts They also make a stubby rear bumper that has the same kind of bolt-on shackle mount. Bare steel, powder coated steel, aluminum, or carbon fiber. - your choice/ your money.
