Rear center seat question

I've noticed this only when I put on the rear seat cover and try sitting on the rear center seat.

The rear center seat has no support at the bottom, but only a layer of foam. So, if you have a slim ass or if a kid, there will be nothing that can support the weight other than the thing layer of foam.
The seats on the left and right have metal plates below the foam to give it support.

Is the center seat supposed to be like that? or I'm missing something?

We noticed the same thing on our '12. We had looked at the '11's and were hoping they would have fixed that because they were the same. I know some have added support under or stuffed something under the seat. We are looking to add a third car seat soon and with a small child it should be okay, but not sure about an adult. Over time I'm afraid it would break down without some extra support. That is on our list of to do's, but at the bottom. I think even though it is supposed to be a 5 passenger, that it may be a tight fit with three adults so Chrysler doesn't worry about it so much. I'm not sure all three car seats will fit. We will find out in a few months.

Thanks for confirming that, though I'm still shocked that Chrysler didn't put a better effort in getting the center seat right. It's like sitting on a toilet stool that only has the sides supporting you, can't imagine how much my friend would suffer in a long road trip and most likely the foam will be torn apart soon.

I've heard they have new seats for 2013, wondering if they finally have that addressed, or there should be some aftermarket product to make sitting at the center more bearable.

Yeah, not sure an adult would find it comfortable. I didn't even realize this was a problem until I was reading about other members talking about this last year when we were looking. I was so hoping they would have changed this with the '12s. With two car seats in the back we really haven't had anyone sit in the middle, and probably won't for some time. There is no way an adult could sit between the car seats.

Hadn't heard about the new seats for 2013. I hope they changed it.

i emailed them and they replied with some BS about cost cutting. i wrapped some bungies under the seat and it's well supported now. i noticed after doing it, when you fold them flat the seat protrudes about an inch higher than the other.

eh, Fiat will sort it out. Maybe this is the 2013 seat comfort thing?

Interesting about the bungies. I will have to try that out. Obviously they know about it. I don't know how they can say three people can sit back there when the third would sink their butt to the ground.

Rear seat? I forgot mine had one - that must be what the folded up thing in the corner of my garage is.

I was really disappointed when I first sat on the middle seat also - a little bit extra would have been worth the cost to have a fully-functional middle seat!

Based on someone's suggestion here, I bought a 50mm ammo box (available from army surplus stores, or ebay) and that fits nicely under the seat. It pushes the seat up just slightly, but it's sorta neat having it there, and it's good for storing things.

I had this same issue with the rear seat. Here is an old thread that talks about some other ways to fix it. I fixed mine and it feels better than the others.
