Rear ended :(

Hey guys I got rear ended today and all that seems to be wrong is my tire carrier bent down and dented my tailgate and is still bent down. And of course it was a ditsy blonde on her cell phone. (her car was jacked up) i have an insurance adjuster coming tomorrow but my question is have any of u Jk owners been rear ended or have a similar story or pics? That spare saved the bacon for sure!

Here's a pic of the car that ran into my wife. The tow hook and tow hitch were scratched up and the bumper had a small kink in it. The spare dented his hood and left a few skid marks. Insurance paid for a new bumper, tow hook, tow hitch and a new tire! And that was the first time my wife had ever driven the Jeep.

No joke, I have been rear ended 3 times in the last 8 months.....all three times I was stopped and I have a bright blue 2009 Sahara.......

The first 2 times it was women (I am a woman) on cell phones. the last time I was parked in a parking lot and didn't witness it. I was pissed off.

I got paid about $1600 in damages for the first two, but all the damage was minor and we were able to polish it out. After the 3rd hit in June, I ordered a JKR and it should be here soon.

Yup...rear ended by a drunk in an avalanche. I was stopped at a red light and happened to glance in my rear view mirror and WHAM! He got out to take a look at the damage, never said a word...got back in his truck and left. But before he left I was on the fon with 911 giving them his license plate...so he did get busted!

The avalanche looked a helluva lot worse then my jeep....it was all stoved in with pieces on the ground. You couldn't tell the jeep was damaged unless you "looked".

Glad you're ok!!

Haha I've been rear ended on more than one occasion by people not paying attention. The last time the lady hit me and totalled her car. Unfortunately she sheared my rear tow hook off (I can't find another) But other than that, the tailgate got pushed in a tiny bit... just hooked my tow straps to the tailgate and the other eend to a big tree in my froint yard and voila!! repaired..

I was hit in the back, but only the tow hook and tow hitch cover needed replacement. That was my 2010 Sahara. My co-worked had his JKU spare pushed in at the bottom. Both got fixed, and I'm, sure yours will also. It's frustrating, but seems to happen to everyone at some time. I took mine to a Jeep dealer for repairs.

Check with your insurance carrier. Some have no problems with you paying the difference for upgrades and others balk about even paying off on the claim.

Glad you are alright & it was not very destructive. Happens to everyone at some point. Jeeps can definately take a punch. There is a guy on here that posted about a 65 mph rollover in his JKU. Amazing that he came out with only bruises

Mine was punched by a bus. Positive outcome at the end. Hope you come out on top. See the thread

Con Artist had a much worse experience than either you or I.

I get rear ended at least twice per year in the Chicagoland area. Mostly just stoplight bumps from cell phone nitwits with there heads down creeping forward. Started driving with my big black drop bar with ball on all the time and now it's a very colorful drop bar and ball.

About 3 years ago, my wife got rear ended while driving our old Cherokee. The first thing I asked when she called was " Is the Jeep o.k.?" I soon realized (with her assistance) that wasn't the first question I should have asked! I soon recovered as I told her that she must have been fine because she was able to call!

Glad to hear you are o.k. The amount of morons that are on the road is absolutely terrifying! If some could open your tailgate to get closer, they would! Safe distance for them is not in their realm of thought.

I don't know about you folks but it seems a lot of people around here must have gotten their license through a Cracker Jack box. Only way I can figure!

I got rear ended by a maserati last month which pushed me into a Supra. He pushed in the bottom of my bumper. He went home with an impression of my bumper on his hood. I broke my license plate holder on the front.
