You probably didn't line up the two front hooks right when you put the seat back in. there's two sets of hooks that hold the front part of the seat. If you overshoot the first set of hooks the seat will just sit there. It won't spring up, tumble or anything.
If you've overshot the loops it's going to be a mother to unhook them and line them up again. I went through that horror and--yep--pinched the HELL outta my fingers trying to line up the hooks in all the right loops.
You're going to have to push the seat up on your own to get to the rod. If you do manage to get the seat unhooked again make sure to aim that rear hook on the first set of loops first. The front hook will automatically lock up on the front set of loops and the rear hooks will fall down on the rear loops. You'll know you have it right when the rear end of the seat will have a tendency to kinda spring back up a little.
