Rear spare tire removal options?

I am about to purchase a new JKU. I was wondering what options exist for removing the spare off the back of the vehicle. The truth is, I just don't want to carry that extra weight around, plus it hinders rearward visibility a lot. When I go off-roading I will throw it back on, but in the meantime I'm looking for a slick look back there.

Does anybody else do this, and what does it look like? Any photos? I'm going to have the tow hitch and from time to time will throw a bike rack on the hitch. Thanks!

A jeep without a spare on the back looks goofy to me.

Look up the Poison Spyder Tramp Stamp. Many other companies make similar products as well.

Thats easy. You just get out your jack take the flat tire off and roll it down to the closest tire shop. You can even leave the keys in the jeep cause no one is going to be able to drive away.

Plain as the nose on youir face-

No reason to carry a spare tire on a "JESUS" jeep-

I don't think they have to worry about crossing streams either-

Times are a changing !

Didnt think about that Jimbox. Maby I should come up.with some kind of mount so they can tote a spare head insted of a tire.

My bolt pattern is slightly off I had it custom made from a guy in Illinois, doubt I could return. Still looks good But I love the look of no spare tire.

If you do one that has a cut out on it make sure you put a red brake light behind it so you dont have to do it later like I did.

Here in Va where I live it will not pass inspection without 3rd brake light. I tried when I bought bumper w/tire swing.

I ran my TJ on 35's for 7 years without a spare on the street. I always carried the spare off road, as off road damage tends to be far more severe. Never cut a sidewall on the street unless it was part of an accident.

I carried tire plugs (real ones, not Wally World $5 crap) and a can of fix-a-flat. Naturally Jeepers all have OBA, so that's a given. If you carry those items, you'd be hard pressed to find a situation on the street that you couldn't fix to a point where you couldn't get to safety, be it home or a proper repair shop.

If all else fails, carry a credit card and a cell phone to get towed somewhere.

AAA (premium members get up to 100 miles free towing) is a wonderful thing to have in the event you have a flat and don't carry your spare while on the street.
