Rear Tire Cover or not?

Stupid Saturday Question of the Day!

Does anyone here with a JK run with a tire cover on the rear spare?
I have only even seen 1 JK with a cover and it was a really boring one.
Seem to see them all of the time on YJ, TJ and even some CJs.....
I guess the more "modded" the Jeep, the less likely to see the cover.
Cannot imagine the cover provides any special protection to the spare or
rim......I like the idea in theory but still not sure if I can find any style that makes me that excited....

Just curious..

POST EM IF YOU GOT ONE.

My jeep came with the black denim with the black jeep on it. So, I kept it on. Does that make me a loser?

I Have a pretty cool cover on my rear tire. But I got it, to Keep the Slush and salt off the wheel in the winter months.

^Bingo- rock it only if you'll see salt/road poop. Otherwise, they tend to keep dirt and salt stuck against the wheel, and bad things can happen
Down on the bayou, you should be fine either way It doesn't save the world (you should be rotating it in with every oil change anyway), and can be a pain in the bum to take off/put on.

Hey Ryders- where in NY? I'm in Dutchess County- Mark W.

So why don't they make cool ones like Rovers have on them? Maybe something with rocks on it or mountains or something cool other then JEEP? Or is there someone out there that make these things? And yes I've got mine on there, until I get my rock stars on it then I'll pull it off

If I was to sport one it would be similar to that. You can always get a solid color and have it air brushed with something custom.

I got one that came with my 09.
Was put on by the dealer.
Im replacing it since they arent paying me for advertiseing the place.
Same with the license brackets.
I like the one in the previous post.
I think thats the one Im getting.
Personally, I think they keep the sun from causing premature aging of the tire.

I agree with donnie. Mine came with one from the dealer. It has their address and phone number on it and looks like crap.

That was my first mod, removing the spare tire cover.

it never occured to me to worry about the tire cover (I have the one plain black with Jeep on it). I guess that's for not seeing to much the rear of my Jeep I did though noticed some cute covers, especially the one on the Mitsubishi Galloper

I personally plan on rotating my tires regularly, including the spare. It's a pain in the booty to pull on and off, and the benefit doesn't outweigh the cost. If my tires last 30k miles, that's about a year or so, they won't have time to get skin cancer from lack of cover Mark W.

I left my dealer supplied one on. So far I've got good service from them. They were straight forward about getting me a new vehicle when I couldn't get the hard top to stop leaking after they tried several times. Love my new Rubi. That said, I don't mind advertising for them a little. Here is the real reason I keep mine covered: I figure that if I walk up to it an some loser is taking it off or in the process of taking it off, I'll know it isn't to inspect my cool tires, rather it would be the first act a thief would do to steal them so that would make the person a criminal and I would be looking for something to pop im in the knee caps with. With no wheel covers, a potential thief would still be able to walk away and I would suspect nothing if he hadn't gotten started yet or even if he had it half off, I might not know what he was up to unless I went around the back of the car to inspect it. Cover off = trouble. A good indicator. That was my thinking. I could eventually paint the cover black and air brush my own design on it. Or splurge and get a redi-made one.

Go for the cover

I think a tire cover is a great way to give your Wrangler some personality. Also, the sun is brutal down here in Florida and I think it's a good idea to keep it protected. It all depends on your situation.

There are a lot of places online that sell tire covers with all kinds of designs and logos on them - not just ones that say Jeep. Give them your tire size, choose your logo, and they will print it on the cover for you at the same price as most stock design tire covers.

Find a design or logo that means something to you and go for it!

I agree. We throw something on as a spring ritual, that winter has finally ended. Don't keep it on in the winter, since the salt gets trapped in there. We're fans of the "Life is Good" theme, so that's our latest...
