So I just ordered a Bolt hood lock for my 17 JKU. I'm looking to get a JWM4x4 grill insert with hood lock hole to go with it (https://www.jwm4x4.com/collections/.../mopar-lock-grille-insert?variant=21768859461). I see some people had issues with aligning the grill insert hole with the hood lock while searching the forum, such as this one:
Check out the T-Rex one. I just installed one on my Jeep the other day. The issue I had with it is because I have the grill with the plastic inserts so I had to trip some plastic tabs on the back of my grill. If it wasnt for that it would have fit perfectly without mods and lines up with my hood lock.
I don't know if this has been addressed before, but the Bolt & Mopar locks are not identical. I have one of each and and they do not locate identically in the grill. I have a grill insert I obtained through Amazon for which the Mopar lock aligns perfectly for the lock cutout, but the Bolt would be slightly off center.
Again, even though both locks use the same tumbler technology, look somewhat similar and use pretty much the same means of attachment, they are not the same.
I have the Mopar hood lock and JWM 4X4 grill insert, and the Mopar hood lock aligned perfectly with the JWM grill insert lock hole, when I installed them.
I chose the Bolt and have been happy with it. No real problems on install.
Don't have a mesh insert though I would assume if I did that just a little cutting would make it fit mo better?
