Recon Smoked Lens Fender and Signal lights.

Just finished swapping out my amber lights with Recon smoke lens lights. They look great. They are pricey but I love them.

I won't comment because I know my remarks would be taken as cruel or something.

Looks good! Does smoking the lights affect how bright they are? It looks good on a black jeep!

Those look nice Bomber. How much did they set you back? I plan on painting my TJ black and those would look nice on it.

It's probably just me but every time I glanced over at the Recent Threads box and saw this thread it looked like it said "Bacon Smoked Lens..."

I paid $230.00 with tax at 4WParts. They matched Recons website price with shipping.

$230 to get the turn signals and side markers? That's a good amount for 4 lights

Thanks man. You're right those are a bit pricey. I might be looking for something a bit cheaper than that but we will see when the time comes. I really do like them though.

I know right. Cholesterol Edition.

After installing the new Recons (Bacons) the turn signals work but fast. I asked the guy at 4W parts if this was normal and he said that because the Recons are LED's as opposed to the stock incandescent bulbs, they require less electricity to operate them. This in turn causes the the stock system to send the rapid turn signal in order to warn the driver that they are malfunctioning. He says that I have to get some sort of resister to install between the new lights and the stock wiring. Does anyone know where I can get these resistors?

I would be upset if I paid that much money and this happened. Especially with that lame excuse. If they know this, then the resistor should come in the kit or at least offer it for sale with instruction

You mean more than halfway in cost to a decent winch, a piece of safety equipment that actually has some sort of intrinsic value on a Jeep?
Or a little more in cost than a Hella headlight H4 conversion? An upgrade that might save your life one night?

I just ordered a set for $54 including shipping. I'll post how good they are when I get them in a couple days. Comes with amber lights and fits stock harness so no mods needed

In some states, shading the stock lights or even the license plate and it will not pass inspection. Lights are rated for output and there are minimum standards. Putting a shade on them causes less output. Possibly in violation of minimum standards. I'm with Bill on this one (HD) I could find a lot more mods to do that are a heck of a lot more useful that don't lessen the safety factor of the jeep.

Most parts stores sell the resistors and they are super simple to install. Just 2 are needed, one for each side and probably wont take mor ethan 20 minutes to install. I sell the kis for about 20bucks a pair.

Hmmm...$20.00 for a pair of resistors that cost a buck or two? Not a bad profit!

Because some people just want their stuff to look cool and different. Nothing wrong with that.

I'd like to see pics and let me know what you got. I might just get the same. Sounds like a slam dunk.

Looking cool and different is OK but the reason that states have minimum standards is not because you in particular or any other vehicle owner in general has to have their cool factor torpedoed, but rather to keep us all safe on the road. Turn signals are meant to be seen at distance and putting filters on them that decrease their output (and thus their effect at distance) has its limits. That is why you shouldn't be shocked when you see the reject sticker on your windshield.
