I am putting together a recovery bag for my JKU with Warn Zeon 10 winch. I plan on getting a tree strap, 30' long recovery strap, snatch block and some shackles. What are you guys using for load rating? I see 20k, 30k but when you get to the snatch blocks they are much less as well as the shackles. What seems to be the going norm for a 10,000 winch and a JKU? Where are guy guys buying this stuff as well?

I run the 20K rugged ridge snatch block and 20k shackles. 30,000 lb tow strap and 30,000 lb tree saver. I think you want at least 1.5 times the full vehicle weight on your winch and accessories.

I've used my 9.5K winch doubled over on that RR snatch block to extract a 10,000 pound skid steer from some deep mud with no issues. It pulled way harder than it ever did when I had to use the winch to extract myself, but nothing broke.

Also, I'd add gloves and a winch line weight to your bag if you run cable line on your winch.

Great input and anything else you think that is needed? Where seems to be the best place to order?

I also carry two small folding shovels and an extra pair of boots. And always have some extra beer so I can pay the folks that help me if I'm stuck. I don't carry a hi lift jack but wheel with a guy who does so I don't need one.

Quadratec has always treated me well, they have a good selection. I also buy a lot of stuff off amazon.

Make sure to read up on how to use all the equipment. You can double the pull power of your winch with the snatch block if you rig it right. And know that sometimes, no matter how much you try, one winch won't be enough. That's when the beer comes in handy.

I swear okstate, I almost spit my coffee, I thought it was gonna say 2 small folding chairs to sit in while you drank your beer and watched :beerdrinking:

Carry on

The Warn medium or heavy duty recovery kit is a good start, comes with a great bag as well.

Some extras to throw in there: Air compressor, bottles of water, towels, folding Fiskars bowsaw, folding shovel, first aid kit, fire extinguisher.

Thx guys and I gave the HiLift, AX, Hatchet, First Aid, Shovel and gloves. Now looking for a hand saw, tree strap, tow strap, snatch block and line dampener. Trying to decide on the right fire extinguisher mount for me then the extinguisher will come too.

Where can I locate 20k d shackles? I am only seeing 13500 versions and unless I am crazy if the shackles are less than the strap it will be a weak point or am I missing something?

Most 1" shackles should be 20k lbs.

You know what? That is a damn good idea! I will now also be carrying 2 small folding chairs so I can just sit there and watch!

I don't think you'd need a hatchet and a folding saw. I like a saw better than a hatchet. Look at the fiskars folding saw.

Quadratec has a nice fire extinguisher holder that straps to anywhere on the roll bar.

When it comes to the folding shovel. Stick with the military issue ones made in US by Ames. The $20 ones are garbage when you go to actually use it.

I used to carry all the recovery gear in a big wire milk crate. Had lots of room to carry way more than needed, but it was a mess. :(
The Jeep came with a nice Jeep Trail kit great for "Snatch" work, and the Warn winch came with a nice Warn recovery kit. I added two extra snatch blocks & tree protectors, and a Warn line damper.
Now I can quickly grab the kit that matches the need, and everything stays organized and grease free. :)

Here is what I did for fire extinguisher mounts. 10ga aluminum with spray on bedliner. Keeps the extinguishers close at hand. Made one for each side. Center top screw uses stock hole in seat frame, ends use 1/8"x1" aluminum strap to "clamp" frame.
