remote start question

Recently purchased a 2009 Sahara 4door, 4wd for the wife to drive....
One of the selling points I used to persuade her was that we could add remote starting to it later...(I know that was a sneaky ploy...)

Anyway, has anyone out there in jeepland had this done and if so, what did the dealer charge ya'?
Is it something that I can do myself or is it dealer only?
It is automatic and has remote entry...
Thanks in advance,
Scott

I have it factory installed on the 2010. It cost me $165.... And honestly it's nothing special unless it's snowing out

remote start

That was probably the option price from the factory. I am afraid the dealer will charge more than that to retrofit. Did I mention it was 103 degrees here in Texas today? I think it would be nice for her to be able to cool it down a little before jumping in.
Plus that was a "selling point"...to trick her into agreeing to drive a Jeep; I mean "convince" her to drive a Jeep...did I say "trick"?

I was quoted $140 to get aftermarkets put in my '10 JK AND my wifes minivan...

You'd wind up with another key fob that way though...

If you pay a neighborhood kid $1 a day to start your Jeep that'll get your through almost half the year at a budget of $140.00. Problem solved.

mine was 165 but for some reason i can not get it to work more than 10 feet away from the car, the guy said atleast 35 feet, car has less than 2500 miles on it so ill get it checked out, but my gf's liberty had the same problem, itd be cold as can be out, and we would warm up the car, but really, by the time the car turns on, we are already inside of it, its a hit or miss, but 165$...cant miss too badly

Weird, it's supposed to work from up to 300 ft away!!

I can start mine from my apartment sometimes and I'm on the opposite side of my buildings parking lot, no windows facing that direction, just a lot of walls!

Has anyone installed the remote start themselves?

start

I can't see how it could work on a manual unless you leave the vehicle in neutral while parked and the vehicle had a neutral safety switch...

I am also curious about the self install question...

I know I am a newbie on this board, so I won't take any liberties but I figured most of the smart asses were on the motorcycle forums, I guess I was wrong...

Should be plug and play from the dealer. I checked Best Buy, and it's around the same price. Most likely your Jeep is already wired for that option, it's just a matter of buying the module from Jeep and installing it.

I bought my JK in June and picked up the remote start kit with my MOPAR bucks. With the parts and installation, it ended up eating up about $300-350 of my $500 total. The labor schedule says that it's an hour and a half install charge. Also, you get two new keys, so now I have a total of four.

It is kinda gimmicky, but I enjoy it

Wicked bad idea I've read about some that have a little OCD like ritual you go through when you park, for safety sake, but it just seems like a bad idea from the get go
