Remove lift opinions

Bought a 2011 JKU a while back. It already had this Rough Country 4 inch coil lift on it. And it has 285/70/17 nitro terra grapplers. The lift drives and rides like crap. It's rough and the geometry is all out of whack I'm quite positive. I am considering going back to stock springs and shocks and a terflex level. I don't plan on going bigger then 33s and only off road really mild a couple times a month. The whole goal is to improve the drive and ride. Plus I think the level will look better with the 33s. What do you guys think? Good idea?

Yep good idea.

With 33's a leveling kit is all you need and everything stays in proportion and you will find your jeep will drive like stock again, but be even more planted on the ground with the wider 33's.

Also your drive line components will thank you.

I've run my leveling kit with 305/70/16 (33's) for over 2.5 years without any issues what so ever and it has performed just fine for the type of wheeling I've done.

that's what I'm hoping for. This rough country stuff is pretty stiff. Do you know, when I do the swap I plan to loosen all the bolts and retighten them at the new ride height. It has off set cam bolts on the front lower control arms. Can I just loosen them and retighten them? Or should I just replace them with regular bolts since I'm going down to just the leveling kit?

yeah I will remove both front and rear brackets. 4 wheel parts show a stock pitman arm online. Do you know about the cam bolts? Can they just be loosened and then retightened or should I just remove them and put regular grade 8 back in with the level ?

Yeah. I sold all my 2015 JKUR stock suspension parts on craiglist with 100 miles on them for $125.00

Do you have the stock springs already? If not, it would make more sense to buy the RK 1.5 springs and not bother with the spacers.

You're doing the right thing by getting rid of that low budget RC lift. Go all the way and if you have them, get rid of the lousy cam bolts. Welding is the best option.

You might be able to trade your lift to someone for their stock parts. Shot for a set of 19/60 coils.

I hope so. Everyone says I will be much happier with the ride and drive on the stock suspension.

Is there anything else I should be concerned about, Coming down from the lift to just a leveling kit? Other than getting a front end alignment. I already have stock shocks and springs and Pitman arm. And plan to remove the track bar brackets on the front and the rear.

What did you decide on for leveling?

If you are still going to keep a couple of inches of lift, you might just leave the cam bolts in for now to adjust caster as needed. You can use these to remove the cam bolts, but then if caster is a little low (every Jeep is a little different) then you are back to adding a set of TF Sport lower control arms to get it back.

Do you have stock track bars? Once the brackets are off, that should put you back pretty close. Just make sure to remove the bump stops, etc. that may have been added. Also, what do you have for sway bar links?

I'm going with the teraflex spacer kit. I have stock springs, shocks, and pitman arm to put on. And all the control arms are stock. I'm going to leave the cam bolts and just remove the track bar brackets and keep the stock track bars. I'll replace the lift sway bar links with the ones provided with the leveling kit. I will also replace the drop pitman arm with a stock one. Then hopefully all I will need is a front end alignment.

Based on your stated goals and the process you are going through, I think you are going to be happy with the results.

Let us know for sure!!!

That looks a lot better!

That first pic looks like someone pulling up their pant legs and tip-toeing through water.

Well done!

The first pic would have looked fine with a set of 37's and a new lift kit... :tomatoes:
