Removing Front 2008 Rubicon Front Bumper

How do you remove the OEM Rubicon Front Bumper Cover?
Is it hard?

It's not difficult. You need to remove the bumper first, then you can remove the cover.

Crawl under the front of the Jeep and unbolt the 8 bolts holding the bumper on. If you have fogs you will need to unclip them. I don't remember exactly, but I do remember that once the bumper is off, it will be plain as day how to get the cover off.

Removing Front Bumper

Yep, have to remove the entire front bumper first like dagg06 stated (18mm socket x 8). There is most likely a plastic air dam/skid plate that has to come off first and as mentioned, don't forget to unplug the fog/driving lights...once entire bumper is off, there are (4) bolts (15mm socket) that hold the outer bumper skin to the inner steel channel. You would think you could just remove the (4) bolts to release the skin; however, you can't get it past the factory tow hooks sticking out the top.. mine is on the garage floor now..comtemplating a winch mount with the factory bumper.

Thank you very much, someone hit my bumper in a parking lot and its cheaper to replace the skin myself for $300 shipped to my house.

If it's just pushed in, you might be able to pop out the plastic when you remove it. You might also want to check around online to see if someone is getting rid of their stock bumper. You can get an entire bumper with the fog cut outs and tow hooks for much less the $300. I gave mine away for free.

If you are going to spend $300 you can get a nice aftermarket bumper for a few bucks more.

I will sell you mine. Just put an aftermarket bumper on two days ago and was thinking of putting my stock one up for sale on the web instead of just throwing it away.

Replacing Front Bumper

My 2008 OEM bumper got hit in the parking lot too. My neighbor gave me his as he replaced his bumper. I did notice inside the bumper lots of tiers were cut. So I am thinking one will need to have those tiers ready which are probably used to tie the fog lights wires to the bumper etc? Does the bumper need propping up or the 8 bolts can be removed without the bumper falling? Gonna try daggo66 advise about popping out the dent first. Some guy was charging me $100 to pop out. Sounds good!

the bumper unbolted will stay in place it slides forward and it removed that way. But of course be careful it is unbolted and if you knock it you might get knock on the head
