Removing grill

Might seem like a silly post here, but I am about to swap out the headlight bulbs.
I'm trying to remove the grill which requires removing the four plastic retainers on the top.
The manual says turn 1/4 and remove but they freely rotate and lining them up is not obvious. The fact that the grill is plastic too is discouraging me from applying any force.
Any hints for getting the grill off and any other surprises swapping the bulbs?
Thx!
-Pete

I read on another thread about using a flathead and pliers to remove them.

I just pry them up with a flathead, they pop right out. They are in two pieces, however, so make sure to keep them together when you pull them.
I don't know if you plan on pulling the entire grill but if so, disconnect the fog light wiring (same red tab type as the door harness - same procedure really), then twist the light down a 1/4 turn and they come right out. Once done, pull the bottom of the grill straight out and it comes off pretty easy.

All done. Once you get the first retainer out it all makes sense.
If anyone else finds this by a search heres what I did.
Got a plastic kids knife and a pair of pliers.
Turned whole retainier to 9 o'clock with pliers and then worked the center piece up and out with the knife. Outer piece then just lifts out.
Undid the metal light/lens cover by removing the four torque screws.
Removed bulb housing from lense by twisting a quarter turn.
Pull out the red locking tab on the housing, it moves a millimeter or 2.
Work old bulb out of green piece with flathead screwdriver.
Put in new buld, slide red tab down.
Reassemble.

Wow, I just removed the air filter box (one bolt from memory) and the horn on the other side and replaced globes from behind. But I think we have different headlights down here too.

I think we have pretty much the same setup. I did the same thing. I just removed the air filter box and I removed the horn on the other side like you did. Then I plugged in the new lights from behind. Very easy to do. Hilldweller mention it in a post one time and I decided to try it that way.

It also helps with sideways thinking when you cant remove the grill! The ARB front bar is too close at the bottom to be able to remove the bottom clips

So it finally got dark and I got to run out with the new lights. I replaced the stocks bulbs with Phillips xtrem vision halogens.
It wasn't like I had to shield my eyes to look at them , but I used to wonder if my lights were on when driving under street lamps, and now I don't.
They definitely light up the road better.

What do you guys have as the stock globes? I know we have a different headlight assembly in ours (for one we drive on the other side of the road, but we also have a very clean horizontal cutoff line and a kick up to the passenger side - euro style I believe) and we get a GE branded (made in Hungary) H4 55/60 watt globe. I have since replaced this with some Narva +50's which made a significant difference, but to be honest the stockers werent that bad.
