Repairing a tear in the front of a bikini top

I just bought a Bestop Islander bikini top on Craig's List. It has a tear in the pocket where the header bar goes (the entire 2" left side is split).

I haven't tried to use the top yet to see if this causes problems with air coming in at highway speeds, but I figure the bulk of the pressure is going to be coming from the front, so I assume that a repair tape should work well enough to repair a split on the side.

Does anyone have any thoughts or cautions? I know there are some transparent sailcloth repair tapes; does anyone have any experience with these? I want to use transparent tape since it's the Khaki Diamond top and I can't get a matching tape for that. Any suggestions concerning brands/types?

Or is there a better way? I'd rather not scrap this top this year since I'm buying a lot of stuff for this 2013, but if I can get it to last the summer, I'd be happy.

Thanks for any suggestions!
