ARRRGGHH!!

This weekend, I installed the:

Ace Rock Sliders - No Problem
Door Sill Guards - No Problem
Fuel Filler Door - No Problem
Mastercraft Grab Handles - No Problem
Sticker Removal - No Problem

AntennaX Stubby? - Problem

With no instructions I attempted use channel locks around a rag and the dang plastic base came apart like a Chocolate Malt Ball.

Shoot! There goes 16 bucks. I was on a roll for awhile.

Seriously, how did you guys get a good grip on it?

Got my Antenna X 13" rubber antenna two days ago and installed it today. Took less than 3 minutes. Installed new antenna by hand. Looks great and no radio reception issues.

Well, I can't believe that I just read all 14 pages of a thread about an antenna swap. Maybe the mods get easier after the first. Like tattoos...

Ordering the 13" stubby euro for my Yeti JKU. First mod!

antenna swap should be the easiest and cheapest mod you can make

Out of the mailbox to installed in under 5 minutes. Would have been quicker but the stock one was on there tight.

There was a bit of goo on the threads of the stock antenna from some type of thread locker, it was tight. I'd spray some WD-40 in there if it was hard to turn, it's just residual in there from whatever thread locker they use at the factory.

Pretty much same experience for me...No need for tools or special adapters, just use what comes with the antenna and go...the stock antenna may require pliers to loosen if it's on tight.

X2. Not sure how you complicated it that much...It's a pretty straight forward job.

I go about 300 pounds and fill a suit like Warren Sapp. If it could've been tightened by hand, it would be tight.

Did you read what I posted above about the goo from thread locker? I think this might be new on the '12's, my 09 never had it. Mine didn't thread in super easy either, but I didn't need tools. I did need a wrench to get the stock one off.

I put the stubbie 13" on my Wrangler but the reception went down a bit. (Your mileage may vary).
So I tried the 14" inch. Reception is back to normal and actually, I think it looks better.

I'm not sure how you experienced you are at wrenching, but a rule I always follow is if you are threading anything into anything, and it meets with resistance, stop and re-access what's going on. I learned this the hard way installing new shocks on a Harley. This ended up being an expensive lesson

Noted. Sound advice. My learning curve remains huge.

I just received mine and had trouble installing. the package i received had the antenna, a coupler, and 4 different thread adapters (all of which were far too skinny to fit in the factory hole). what should I do??

I also ordered one for my wife's mustang and again, none of the adapters fit! i ordered through the antenna x amazon shop and definitely ordered for the right make/model/year of both vehicles.

Just trying to help boss, I weigh about 160 and need a belt to keep pants around my butt, so if I'm screwing it on the same vehicle by hand, you should be able to just look at it and make it happen...

The largest adapter is a perfect fit on my 2011 JK.

Plus AM/FM reception is as good as with the much longer oem antenna.

Okay, now I feel like a complete noob-doof. Is there something different about the '12 JKU antennas? I expected to be able to unscrew the stock antenna by hand and it will NOT budge. I then tried a set of pliers with a rag for cushioning and it still won't budge. Plus the base is turned juuuust so that I can't really get a grip on the flat panels with channelocks or regular pliers.

Any help? Maybe just because it's never been removed before? What's the best tool for this?

Thanks.
