Didn't get to try it out yesterday but drove my
50 mile commute today and was able to see the
difference. IMHO .... This is not a scientific study
or measurement but it seams just a little loss
BUT .... I will admit there is alot less static on
my AM band near power lines or even heavy duty
power lines along a regular road. Even tho there is
loss of signal strength I can turn up the volume more
to hear them. On the FM band on my commute I did
not see any loss BUT I think it brings the stations in
better so the songs sound clearer.
Even tho I got the longer one ....
Dammm ... it is short .... lol ....
Gotta watch out when washing and waxing
I don't get poked in the eye ... LOL ....
Last impression ....
LOVE the look of it on my Jeep !
Rob ...,

And I can't get this adapter off my jeep now. I'm done with these antennas, going back to stock as soon as I can get this thing off.

just sent a PM. Sounds like you overtightened it. I will resend another out asap or refund just let us know. I can assure you these are high quality antennas and have been selling these for over 10 years.

Mine looks like this

Also FYI I attached the adapter to the antenna before installing as it gave me more surface to grip and twist.

Hope this helps.
I just installed my 13" antennax last night and it looks exactly like this. At first I tried just screwing the entire antenna assembly in by hand, but that did not work as it would not screw in all the way.

The way I got it to work was to first screw the adapter into the antenna base by hand. Then I unscrewed the antenna from the base. I took the base and adapter assembly and used a strap wrench to screw it into the mount. The strap wrench worked really well and I was able to screw the base all the way down until none of the silver adapter was showing. After that, I screwed the antenna back onto the base.

As far as reception goes, I tested out both AM and FM and noticed absolutely no loss in reception.

Love the look..love the quality. Great product AntennaX. Thanks!

Lol. You must be parked right at the site of the radio stations because the reception with these cheap antennas are HORRIBLE! Good luck when you drive out of town!

x2 I agree. If it wasn't for the fact that I just listen to Sat. radio I would have tossed this antenna a long time ago.

One thing is for sure, AntennaX has great customer service. They are gonna send me a new unit, Hopefully things workout better with the new one!

I got my antennax adapter off with a vise and have my oem antenna back on, but I hate the tall wobbily fishing pole sticking out of my Jeep.

I don't have the Antenna X one, but I have a different brand, but reception with mine is less than stock, but still very good. I can pick up a smaller market station all the way along my 50 mile commute. Mine is all metal, so maybe that helps out?

I think what hurts the antennax models is A. the height (which is a trade-off for looks and understandable) and B. the quality. AntennaX's prices are really low but it shows in terms of the quality. If you run one of their antennas for a couple of months, then pull it off you'll start to notice the amount of rust and corrosion that builds up in such a small amount of time. Eventually the adapters crack and disintegrate with the slightest tap. To their credit they do stand behind their product and will promptly send you a replacement but its the same stuff. Like I said, if you don't listen to AM/FM radio much then this is a good alternative to the stock "Fishing pole" but you do get what you would expect from an inexpensive short antenna replacement.

it all depends on where you live but for most people reception stays the same. as we have said before, anything shorter than 13 inches and reception is greatly reduced which is why we dont sell anything shorter than 13 inches

Well put! These cheap antenna replacements might look good, but they certainly don't do what they should do, and that is receive a signal! Junk!

I recieved mine today and installed right away. I love the look but I have to say AM reception is definitely not as good as it was. So far FM is OK

before we put a product on the market we make sure they work on our vehicles or we dont sell them. I have one on my 2010 Jeep Wrangler now for 3 years, same signal since I put it on, no corrosion, and no breaking. We would not be in business for over 10 years now selling the same antenna if they didnt work!!

Just installed my 13" billet antenna. Still get all local Tri Cities, TN. FM stations. However, I cannot get 103.5 Knoxville anymore. And, I have noticed a weaker AM reception as well. Looks wise, this thing is a keeper. The performance lacks a lot to be desired. I wonder if they sell a stock length in all black?

No corrosion after 3 years? I have had mine on for less than 1 year and it looks like this...

Antenna

Adapter

I'm not here complaining about my Antenna. I imagined it would be cheap quality for $16 and I imagined that the reception would be horrible because of the shorter mast and the inevitable corrosion. BUT, to come on here and say that there are no corrosion issue or loss in signal isn't right.

I recently installed the 13" antenna on my JK and noticed similar results: significant loss in reception of AM stations and minor loss for FM. I have satellite but still listen to AM and FM stations so I will probably be switching back regardless of it's good looks.

our testing ground is florida so we are seeing no corrosion on the exposed adapter. on the inside thread in the base of the mast there is some corrosion. Regarding reception, FM signals are stronger compared to AM so AM is not as good as FM with these shorter antennas. Most people dont listen to AM compared to FM. Sports and Talk radio tend to be on AM and there are those that need those stations which a short antenna is not a good choice.

AntennaX, do you have any black antennas in the 20-24" range?

Good question...I have put these stubbys on two Jeeps because they look awesome compared to that stock whip. In NW suburban Chicago, I have absolutely, positively, noticed a compromise in signal with this mod.

Perhaps a flexible rubber coated antenna in a mid-range might be a functional compromise?

Its great to hear you say that. My advice to you is to look into using stainless steel hardware to really ensure there is no corrosion. Obviously the exterior will not have any corrosion issues, its plastic. But the inner threads, the parts that are involved with the actually reception is a different story. I'm sure that part of the reception loss can be attributed to the corrosion problem. I'm sure people would be willing to pay an extra $5 for stainless hardware. Just something to consider along with offering a taller option in black.

I know there is some demand for a black antenna this sits just at or 1/2 above the roofline. I have asked as well as others in various threads on the board and others. My preference would be a stock looking antenna, not a fat one.

In regards to the corrosion issue above. You are in FL and the other user in NY, big difference in weather.

What would happen if you just snip off a foot of your stock one and spayed it black for the look?
Has anyone tried this?

Thought about it...I have read that the paint flakes off even after good prep. There is a thread around here about it. I am contemplating shortening it anyway; paint or not.

I can't begin to guess what the demand might be, but I'd buy one... hell, I'd pre-order it!

Yes, it would be nice to have a simple, black, OEM style antenna that is about 1" taller than the windshield. This should keep good reception, and not look like it belongs on an import tuner-mobile.
