I dont know if others have already posted about this, not willing to look through 27 pages or do x number of searches with 20 different keyworks until it comes up.

But, those with lower reception or that can't install the antenna properly, or is not straight, or can't thread it down completely, may need to trim/sand down the plastic cover right above of the antenna hole.

When I received mine, it was not threading straight and fully, and I was like wtf. I looked closely and the base adapter was hitting the plastic cover at the top when it was threading in. I thus took a dremel and a sanding bit and sanded it down.

The antenna fits perfectly now and the sanded down part cant be seen because it contours the antenna's adapter base. I haven't noticed any reception loss, but then again, I dont ride around inside 6 level garages all the time.

If I had to do it all over again, I would simply plasti dip my existing one, vice putting on the stuby.

Just saying.

Reception was worse, but the look was cool.

The pasti dip route would result in better reception, but less of a cool look -- but would cost me next to nothing, since I have a couple of extra shake can sitting around.

Cheers,
BobH

Depends on your location. If your 35" stock antenna works good for you, keep it. The stubbies don't work for everyone but it will for most. I recommended it to some friends as it worked well for me.
yes, alot of positive reviews here and on amazon!!

Wow! Better reception with the stubby over the stock antenna! There's always a FIRST for everything apparently. Congratulations for being the first! 👍😉

The rest of us have noticed a decrease in reception over the stock. My stubby went in the trash the reception was so bad.

Antenna_X, maybe you can clarify something. I am looking at getting a shorter antenna for our Compass and found your products on Amazon, but here's the rub. If I look at the details listed for your 14" antenna it specifically says that the benefit of this one over all the competition is that your studies have proven that anything under 13" provides no reception at all. But then if I look at your 7" antenna it says that I will retain 80% reception clarity, or something like that. So which is it? I'd like to go 7" but fear I would be too disappointed.

Just don't speak for the "rest of us"... antennas are a crap shoot. You go shorter and they'll work for some and not others. I have strong signals which were overloading, now it's static free. If you don't believe, I really don't care. The HU's sensitivity, antenna, your proximity to the transmitters and geography all have a say in your reception.

It's typical with these stubby antennas. They look good, but you lose reception big time.

Except for the above poster that says he recieves BETTER reception with the stubby. Of course he is the only one. ;-)

Maybe the seller here, AntennaX can reply to this.

I wish had a chance to know if the stubby Antenna X works or not. I can't get the stock one off of my jeep for the life of me! How on earth did you guys get it off. Tried a lil' WD-40 to loosen 'er up - nothing. Plyers - nothing. Needlenose plyers - nothing. I broke a wrench
(albeit a cheap one) today trying to turn this thing. I swear that thing is welded in there.

Could have been hit with lock-tight? My factory one would never stay tight, had to tighten it every week. I have seen some that would not come off... my guess is lock tight. You could try the lock tight remover maybe.

As to the Antenna X stubby... when I switched, I made sure to clean out all the corrosion in the threads, hit them with a little degreaser and then put the stubby in. It has never loosened. Reception wise, I did lose a little distance, maybe 5-10 miles from the home radio station once I got 60+ miles away... but other than that, not much noticable difference. A lot depends on the signal strength of the station too...

Mine came off easily with a shop towel wrapped around the base and pliers. Biggest problem was the pliers gripping the rounded antenna base. With 2 hands I got a good grip and it came off.

Good point up there, if you are far away from the signal or in a mountainous region... this stubby won't work for you. I have a suspicion that the Mopar HU is also to blame for problems. I've never had FM issues in any of my vehicles (stock HU or aftermarket) before, until my 13' JKU.

Those who have issues with reception should go buy a Pioneer HU with the 'Supertuner' and most likely your issues will be gone. If not, just use the stock antenna. I eventually will be getting an aftermarket head unit and the factory crap will be thrown in the basement. Even with my crappy factory HU and my stubby I can receive 104.7 FM from Toledo, OH, (in my garage) which is 53 miles away. I can receive the same station on my Yamaha receiver with a dipole antenna inside my house.

Supertuner IIID for superior FM and AM
Pioneer's legendary Supertuner IIID combines the best of digital and analog tuner technologies to reduce distortion to bring you exceptional FM and AM performance. If you live in an area where reception is weak, you'll hear a big improvement in signal strength. And when you're near tall buildings, Supertuner IIID reduces the effect of multi-path noise, which occurs when the signal is reflecting off of the buildings.

Good to know. I took off mine using a hand tool wrench without problem, yet other fellows could use a soldering iron to (carefully) warm up the thread area for easier removal.

I have been using the 14" Antenna X for a few weeks, and the reception was not much different than the stock antenna. From what I have read; the 14" black metal model seems to hold better reception than the 13" flexible rubber model on our JK, though the 13" looks more stylish.

Just my experience.

Regards,

MNTDRIVER --- In most cases reception stays the same and some even think it improves. In your case reception decreased, I am sorry this antenna did not work out for you and that is why we offer a Money Back Guarantee. There are plenty of reviews on WranglerForum, well over 100 on amazon.com, and Jeep Dealerships put our products on the Wrangler.

There is no need to keep replying to this thread and bash our products when the majority on here love our products...

Yes, we have started to roll out the 7 inch antenna on amazon as we have been getting a lot of requests for this size regardless of performance. So we tried it out and strong stations will be a little weaker, and weak stations will be horrible. Just want to give everyone options as some listen to SAT which uses a separate antenna int he rollbar.

Living in Dallas, my AntennaX gets good reception on all channels. A little worse at certain times of the night on AM, but for the most part for me the looks are worth the slight downgrade in reception.

Same here, I have no problems with the 13" flex antenna I am now using, installed and functions as expected. I used to shorten my existing antennas on my Jeeps, from 4" to 8", they worked as expected as well, poorly but, I don't use AM/FM anyway. After several years of doing so I bit the bullet and shelled out the $20 with shipping for my Antennax. It just looks better! I guess grandma is going to have to wait for her brain surgery until I save up another $20.
Best inexpensive mod out there!

Agreed...got mine this weekend and didn't notice any change. I'm sure those who are not satisifed could return the product and just post if it worked or not.

Yes. Installed yesterday. I live in NJ. Reception went from perfect on all FM stations to non-existent above the 105 range. Unfortunately I have 2 presets in that range. I love the look but I may go back to stock.

Since you have the adapter needed to mount these antennas, you might want to try the Harley Davidson antenna...longer than the stubbies, and I believe loss of reception is minimal. You can always return a purchase from HD.

Ordered mine from AntennaX last week. I have the 13" flex and it works just fine but, I wanted something even shorter. I will post further once it arrives and I have had a chance to test it.
