Question

Speaking of the stock antenna you think it can hold a flag size 12x8 (inches of course) on a JK?

Just a note for those of you that haven't ordered a short antenna:

I ordered a 13" antenna on eBay in October, and after installing it, I lost 3 of the 6 stations I had programed. I've since gone back to the stock antenna and just painted it black so it didn't stand out so much.

I haven't lost any of my programed stations, but a couple sometimes get a little static that they didn't before. I just didn't like the stock hitting my kc lights all the time, I listen to more CDs than I do radio so it doesn't bug me too much

...went with the 8" black 'shorty antennae'. ( thanks for the tip D-66 ).

...right now with the stock antennae ( with a slight bend for the KC Lites ) i get some static on the AM stations. hoping to remedy that problem.

I got mine in today..4 days to ship to Alabama....nice fit...looks really good....did not loose any reception or stations...just a touch of static on a few am stations...overall very impressed...saw another thread about the stock metal antenna that whipped back and cracked his windshield...glad I got mine.

Just got my 8" stubby in the other day. I found it on eBay and it fits perfect with no loss in reception probably due to the larger copper ball at the of the antenna compared to the smaller stock ball.

Got it in the mail today and just slapped it on the Jeep. Here are some pics if anyone still wanted to see what it looks like.

I have no reception issues. That's why I went with the 14" metal as opposed to the rubber one.

I learned about the one I got from a similar thread this past summer on JK-Forum.

Received my 13" black antenna today. Installed, did not loose any stations. It really didn't matter since I listen to Sirius 99% of the time anyway. It looks much better than the TALL stock antenna.

I just installed windshield light brackets from Rampage..I had the feeling when i install the lights that the antenna would hit, especially when off road.

BUT the antenna is already hitting the bracket and i haven't even installed the lights yet....So im thinking that the 13" rubber/plastic antenna will cure this problem, since it may hit at times but atleast i wont hear it tapping the lights..

sounds reasonable right?

I could post the whole frequency versus antenna wavelength formula, but I wouldn't want to bore you that much.

14" is right in the middle of the FM band, just at a different wavelength. AM, not so good. The original antenna is cut at 35", which is a compromise for AM and FM. The spiral on the antenna has nothing to do with reception. It's for wind noise.

The shorter "rubber duck" antennas, have 14-15 inches of antenna, just spiraled like a spring. Then encased in rubber.

In case you were wondering...

I just bought mine. I am tired of hearing my stock one hit the windshield lights. I just about removed it all together because all I listen to is sirius anyway. By the way, does anyone know where the satellite antenna is on a JK? I haven't been able to find it.

Roll bar over the passenger, closer to the outside. Not very large.

I have had my new rubber antenna installed about a week and today, I noticed the short extension piece had broke in half. I sent an email to the vendor to see if I could get it replaced. I put the antenna on without the spacer and now I do not get AM channels as clear as before. Bummer.

Got a 2011 Rubicon in December and just received a 2011 brochure from the dealer. Unless I'm missed something, none of the photos show a vehicle with an antenna. Some not even the base. Evidently the artist thought they were butt-ugly (or bugly as Sanford would say).

I replaced my whip with a 1/4 wavelength black rod (about 14" for FM) and it works fine-even in marginal signal areas. But I rarely listen to radio anymore with Sirius.

For music I've been transferring MP3 songs to flash-drives and plugging into USB port in console-works great & simplier than IPOD.

My M38 has a real radio installation.

My antenna came in this weekend from E-bay. AntennaX was the company that I got it from. (Off-Road (13") ANTENNA 2007 thru 2010 Jeep Wrangler JK). I have a 2011 Jeep Sahara and it did not seem to screw into the existing threads that well so I had to clean up the threads up using my tap and die set, after cleaning the the threads up it went on with no problems and the reception is just as good now as it was before. I really like the way it looks.

i used shorty antenna source, i agree it did take a while to show up in the mail BUT it was well worth it. i too was wondering about the brackets and lights because that is in the upcoming mods to add as long as there's no issue and it has good reception im fine with it. who thought this thread would go so far ha
