...definite loss of reception 15-20 miles outside of metro area of your marginal strength stations with the 8" antennae.

...i did lose the static on the 'am' stations from the stock antennae leaning up against the 'kc's' though.

...if you're a 'city slicker' you're golden as it pertains to reception...if you're a 'country mouse' you might not be happy with the short 8" antennae.

...i love the look of the 'shorty' though, will probably cut down and paint the old antennae for trips into the sticks.

The folks with windshield lights -- are you using the "down and out" or "up and in" brackets (e.g. KC vs. Smittybilt)? What antenna height would be recommended to clear the lights?

I'm running a 14" antenna with MMRB brackets. 7" IPF lights.

Well, I am now the proud owner of the rubber and metal 14" antennas. I have had both installed on different occasions and found each to work equally well. My personal preference, purely aesthetics, is the metal version. JMHO.

I've got the 14 inch metal from shorty antenna source, I'm running Rugged Ridge brackets with PIAA 540 series (I think they are between 5 and 6 inches).

I've got KC "Daylighter" lights/BKTS and I have 1" clearance from the stock antenna--no need for replacement

I picked up the 8" shorty antenna. It looks good and radio sounds good, if not better than with the stock. However I have only tried it in the city. I am sure I will loose reception once I head into the mountains.

Just a heads up...the reception sucks on the rubber shorty if ya live out in the sticks! Looks good though! I listen to mp3's most of the time anyway. I had an old fm booster laying around i thought i'd put in...antenna plugs are different. Oh well...back to mp3's

I just got my 13" rubber antenna and none of the adapters fit in the large hole on the Jeep. What's going on? Did they send the wrong antenna for my '08?

Maybe. Look at NEWWRANGLEROLDCJ7's pics just a few posts up--he's got close up shots of his rubber antenna installed. Is yours not like that?

I'm telling you folks, I've heard lots of complaints about these rubber antennas. By contrast, I haven't heard a single complaint about the 14" black metal antenna from Shorty Antenna Source that's attached to my Jeep right now. I mentioned it earlier in the thread, but you can buy it here.

Ordered that antenna last night. This forum is so awesome for information on where to buy stuff and how well it works.

Anyway, I can't wait to get rid of this 500 mile long stock antenna!

Why buy?

We were cutting the stock ones down 20+ years ago on Mustangs.

I have a post here: http://www.jk-forum.com/showthread.p...=1#post2480104
If you want to do it for free like others here have done.
