Can you just paint over the silver?

Then I screwed in the mast and there was no gap.
Good idea with the nut. I put a rubber nut/ gasket in there, I seem to have a wider gap. I think cranking down a nut might be the trick

Instead of buying a new antenna you can cut the stock one to any height. I've done it on every car I've owned. The ball on the end is just pressed on and pops off by just slidding a pair of pliers down the antenna. Cut the desired heighth, grind the end to a point, tap the ball back on and paint any color. My 2011 JK has a 10" and the signal hasnt changed

Got one from AntennaX but I didn't like the silver adapter showing. I found a similar antenna from Shorty Antenna Source. No adapter and generally just looks better.

Mine doesn't have ANY silver showing. Just screwed the correct insert in and the ariel simply screwed tight to the stock base......just saying.

I didn't know you could cut one down?

Anyone know if the AntennaX Off Road 13" antenna is a 'rubber ducky' design, or a plastic covered whip-style antenna?

Didn't like mine

I wasn't very satisfied with mine. I put it on and it was tough to screw in so scratched the plastic a bit getting it on. Silver showed and when I turned on car AM stations that I have preset didn't come in as good as with the stock antenna. Put the old one back on.

Have one.

AM reception is nonexistent unless you are in the city. FM suffers too. Those that say reception is the same do not live in the deep woods like I. No problem for me, I exist on XM and will on Sirius when the 2012 gets here.

one is stainless steel, the other is rubber. reception is the same on both. Just an FYI for those few who listen to AM radio, short antennas dont work too well with AM

it depends, i think either one will fit, but if the antenna hole on the snorkel is small then the 14 inch is your best bet
