Shocks will have one of the biggest influences on how the Jeep rides. When you lift your rig you'll need longer shocks, but even at stock height some people prefer a different ride out of their Jeep and Shocks will give you that. Let me know if you have other questions!
Mike and I both have the Rancho 9000 shocks. They are adjustable, so you can set them to whatever kind of terrain you're driving on to make it more comfortable. We love them!
If Rancho holds true to form, they should be having a sale in October called Shocktoberfest where they offer a buy three, get one free deal.

There are many choices, but 2 seem to stand out as very popular.
The Rancho RS9000XL and Bilstein's.
At stock height it's the Bilstein 4600's and Rancho has a set also for 0-2" lifts.
The Rancho's are adjustable, allowing you to set the ride more specifically to your taste.
The Bilstein's are monotube which is preferred by some, but it should be noted that some people find the ride a bit stiff, while others feel that is what makes them so good.
I love my Rancho 9000's. I put them on my '14 JKU Rubicon after the wife began to dislike the ride and knew that I needed something better than stock. I started at a 3 but thought the jeep rode a little like a couch around corners. Tuned them up to a 7 and there is alot less sway and she is starting to warm up to the Jeep. At both settings the Jeep wouldn't nose dive at stops like it would on the stock shocks.
Hay Rancho, I figure I would go to the source. I am putting 2.5 lift on a jku '13. I am going between Rancho 9000 and bilstein 5100. Can you give me any advice? This is my DD so mainly driving on blacktop. The one con I got is if you are not going to adjust the settings why buy shocks that adjust? But from all the threads I have read both are popular shocks but the 9000 seem to be more favored. From what I have read. So again I ask for any advice?
I just installed the Rancho 2" Sport kit w/RS9000 shocks on my JKR this weekend. Night and day difference. Here in AZ washboard roads are the norm and setting the shocks to 1 made it significantly smoother than the stock Rubi shocks.
Decided on these shocks for two reasons:
- overall reviews and commentary I found
-Ranchos presence and overall professionalism in this forum. Did not deal directly with the Rancho rep but reading their comments and interaction with other members told me enough about their customer service.
You just can not beat the Rancho 9000s for the money. Being able to change the setting to suit your needs is what makes them one of the most popular shocks amongst Jeep folks.
