Thumbs down Research on 09 JK Wrangler Unl (hope to purchase)

Hello All,

This is my first post on this forum and I have been reading and doing some reasearch on here. Im hoping I can get some first hand opinions and recomendations. I am currently driving a 95 Wrangler (5 spd) that I love. It's so fun to drive around in and also the look of these cars is like no other. I've been recently been looking at possibly purchasing another car and the only two that come to mind are the Wrangler Unlimited (4 door) dont know what package yet, and the FJ Cruiser.

I originally wanted an automatic so some of my family could drive it but I would love the 5 speed manual (still thinking on it) Basically I would like to know of any problems you have encountered and if they were fixed. Off the bat I could mention the freedom top leak (don't know if thats still an issue). My current jeep drips right from under the dash and I have tried to fix but it still happens, dont know why.

How are the transmissions and motor on these babies? are they bullet proof? I could care less about the road noise and the bumpy ride, its a jeep.

Thanks all,

RubenG

Welcome to the forum. There is a lot of information on this forum about new purchases. Just scan your way down the list. I'm sure you'll get a lot of posts in this thread too.

This is a good starting point. At least everybody here knows you have already been bitten by the jeep bug.

I shouldn't have to explain this one. Most everybody here is a jeep nut. Want opinions on an FJ, go to an FJ site and everybody will love you there. But the decision is still yours. Probably what may help you to decide will be how it is constructed. Look underneath. If it looks like a girlyman vehicle, it may help you to decide. My jeep looks beefy and handles that way too. I briefly considered the FJ when Chrysler bought my first jeep back. It was so brief, it was probably a nanosecond.

Teach the part of your family who doesn't know how to drive the standard to drive it. That is a lot of fun. I have taught several and wouldn't hesitate to do it again. I only drive standards except when...gulp...I'm forced to drive an automatic. Does jeep make any automatics??? I thought they were all standards . The JKs are all 6 speed. Even more fun.

The freedom top leak is why Chrysler got my first jeep back. The new one only leaked the first two rain storms and has been dry ever since. Late 08 models seem to be better. The 09 has the middle clamp now clamped to the windshield tie down loop and IMHO that probably solved the issue permanently. Get the 09 and make sure the middle clamp is on the windshield tie down loop.

I took delivery on mine in August of 08. Transmission and motor have been solid. I'm very happy. Read some of my posts and you'll get the idea. I'm in love with it. My wife even wants one. Just think....his and hers!

Good luck in shopping for your jeep. Keep us posted. If you get one post pictures here. We all love to see new ones.
