Rim and Tire question

New to the Jeep world and looking to add new rims and tires to 2015 Sport.

Looking at a rim with +18 offset and either 275/65/18 or 285/65/18

Do not want to lift or do anything else.

My concern is that one place says 285 will be fine and other is saying 275 is largest width without any issues. Get different answers with whomever I get estimates from.

This jeep currently has no off road plans.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Offset is just one part of the equation. The width of the wheel is just as important. Don't get hung up on just one of the measurements because the other will affect how the wheel and tire fits.

The width of the tire (i.e. 285 vs 275) will affect what width wheel you want (which will affect the offset you want).

Depends on the offset/back spacing of the wheel.

The factory wheel is really tucked into the wheel well (lots of positive offset) and you'll probably get rubbing if you put a 285 on a stock wheel. An aftermarket wheel with less back spacing (less positive offset) will be less likely to rub. Adding spacers with the factory wheel will reduce rubbing.

I'm running 315/70R17 tires on 17x9 wheels with 4.5" back spacing (maybe a slight bit of negative offset) and I get no rubbing of any kind.

+12 offset on a 18x9 wheel equates to 5.47 of backspacing..Not the best considering the oem backspacing is 6.25". Many here including myself run a wheel with 4.5" of backspacing but you would be fine with a 285 wide tire on a 5.47" backspaced wheel but if you ever go to a 305, 315 etc (12.5") wide tire you may get some rubbing.

I included an offset to backspacing calculator below.

I see it's +18 not +12 like I initially thought so that gives you 5.71" of backspacing. It should still do but you're really only getting a half inch or so over stock which will limit you to a 285.

See for yourself:

They stick out just a little bit It's not much but it's enough that my tires do throw crap up.

I have since put on Poison Spyder standard width crusher flares and if anything that lets more crud go flying up and on the door.
