Rim suggestions for 33x12.5-15's

Leaning towards downsizing my '12 JK Rubi 2-door to save some money.
Most tire specs call for an 8.5 " minimum rim width, but not a lot out there from what I've been finding...I prefer a classic alloy /polished look over the black finishes; I'm mostly a DD user but will do some offroad in NC mountains. I plan on running just a TF leveling kit to loose the factory rake and prefer a wider stance over the 10" stocker BFG KM's.

I like the BFG MT KM2's or AT K/O's or perhaps the GY Duratracs so I'm looking at about $1000 for tires and $500-600 for wheels after I sell my Rubi take-offs.

Suggestions, pics with similar setups, advice is welcome, thanks!

Check out threads by ESP123--he's got a set up like that and posted pics after the install. Also go to discount tire direct's website, their 15x8 alloys almost all fit.

I have a 92 Jeep Sahara with 4" lift, MT aluminum alloy wheels 15x8, and 33/12.5 BFG AT's that were installed in 1998. Am now on my second set of BFG's. Tires and wheels have worked just great.

The OP is asking about wheels for his JK not a TJ. Check out the threads MTH mentioned and view my profile for more info on the 15x8 ones I run.

So mfg minimum rim width is 8.5" but 8 " rims will work with the 12.5" tires?
Will tire shops mount 'em if there out of spec?

the 8" rim is fine for 12.50 tire. Most shops will mount them, of course ask before hand.

If you mean 15" rims, sure. And some 33's, too. But he's talking about a 12.5-inch-wide tire, which will rub on full turns without the proper backspacing on the rim (about 4.5).

In the OP's case, it's not the height that could cause problems, but the width.

He talking about wheel width, not diameter. Most tire websites recommend at least an 8.5" width wheel for a 33x12.5" tire, and, unfortunately, finding 15x8.5" wheel is tougher than a 15x8" wheel. However, a 15"x8" wheel (like the MB72) will in fact spin a 33x12.5R15 tire just fine. Still, you should ask the tire shop just to be sure they're willing to disregard the manufacturer suggestion of an 8.5" wide wheel. Make sense?

15" steelies almost certainly WON'T work.

I want to say that the MB72 alloy wheels (they have the steelie look) will fit over the JK calipers. They have enough back spacing for the tires too. There are several on here that run those wheels with 33x12.50x15 duratracs.

So can I run 33x12.5-15's on say a Black Rock Viper 15x8 or the MB 72 15x8 with machine finish and just a TF leveling kit?

I also like the MB Chaos 5 15X8" wheels. They will fit also. The MB72 have a steel look and feel with the round holes while the Chaos has spokes with a splash of silver

MB72

MB Chaos 5

I was just pointing out that 33x 12.5 on 15's have worked fine for me and others agree. A 92 is a YJ.
