Contrary to what is posted here, I prefer the 18" rims. Sure, there are fewer tire choices, and it costs a little more for the tires, but with 34s, I get less sidewall damage and they air down just fine. They also are a lot lighter than 34's on 16s, which is way too much rubber and bulge like crazy under 30 psi. With large tires, I'll buy up those unwanted 18s all day long. I see a lot of guys on the trail. Ripping their sidewalls on rocks with super wide 35"s on 16s. Narrow is not a bad thing off road if you have a grippy tire.
