Hey fellas,
Hope I'm in the right place
Back in January i purchased my first jeep 2014 anvil Sahara. Until this time I've bought some small things such as light guards gas cover and even mudflaps. But now that I'm ahead of everything i need to be for a while i want to drop some real money on it....

Skip to the bottom if you would like to help but not read long story...

Anyway here is the story, Gentlemen who has done the tinting of my all my families vehicles recommended me to this Van and Truck customizing place. Told me to speak to a gentlemen who does this for a living and enjoys what he does. So i finally managed to get a hold of this guy and we start talking about rims and tires in which he shows me "His" book in which he orders from.

-What he is trying to sell me are Nitto trail grapplers (dont recall the size but from what we spoke biggest on stock fender no lift) and 5 18"XD Monster series rims. Then goes on and adds a stabilizing bar and says its not mandatory but he suggests it due to the size difference.
-After further discussing we then get into Bumpers which he basically shoots out a number of around 8-1k$ with installation included. Which sounds about average....

So we have
-5 Nitto trail grapplers
-5 Xd Monster series 18"
-stabilizing bar
-Bumper
-------------------------------
5035.00 is the total price is comes to

My questions are, 1. Are the tires worth it because i have heard that the nittos threading wears rather quick for the price.
2. Does the price seem fair for the work done ( keep in mind i do understand that there is over head in a business and he also has to make a profit )
And 3. Are there any better setups that i could possibly run that would still stay before 6 grand?

Anyway if you've gotten this far i thank you for your time, and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!

$5000 for a set of wheels/tires a bumper and (a steering stabilizer??) sounds rather steep to me, but i guess it really depends on products and what your uses are. Dropping down to 17" rims and a taller tire (275-285/70r17 possibly) would be cheaper and offer you more options (plus smaller rim + more tire sidewall look better on a jeep in my opinion)

Discount tire is a forum vendor and treat customers very well, I would contact them via the forum and get some pricing on a few options. Check out their website first as the options are nearly endless, but get a quote via the forum as they offer a discount. I'm not sure why he's so set on selling you 18" rims... you as the customer decide what you want not him. 17's will be cheaper both for the rims and tires, and will ride better due to a taller sidewall. Taller sidewalls also look more "off road ready" than 18's, I know you said you don't offroad but I would still strongly consider going with a 17" rim over 18". Unless of course the bigger rims shorter sidewall look is what you're going for

Tires and nice aftermarket wheels $2000 or less. If you go real big, maybe closer to $3k. Nice bumper $600-1000 with no winch.
Stabilizer $150.

Depends on what tire size and wheels. You can do a 33" terra grappler with XD addicts in 17" for about 2500. I just put on wheels and tires for under $2k but I shopped around. I would say no thanks and get some other quotes. I think you can easily save $1000 or more. Good luck.

I see several opinions preferring 17". Then why would Jeep pre I stall 18" on the Sahara? I want to slowly start modding but due to funds need to do it in steps. Keeping the stock rims and getting new 33" tires and a lift is what I can afford now. But if 17" is the way to go, I need to change my strategy.

The sahara model is geared towards street use and more of a everyday family vehicle, The general trend in MOST modern vehicles is Larger diameter wheels with lower profile tires. It's a style thing. When it comes down to offroad use smaller rims sizes and taller sidewall tires are the way to go, they offer a better ride, cheaper wheels and tires and most of all more sidewall to flex when aired down for traction when offroad. It really comes down to personal preference and what you use your rig for, but I think there are more advantages to smaller rim/bigger tire than there are for larger rim/smaller tire.

Ok So I just went through this a month ago - heres my take.
18" wheels look better than 17" wheels but are more expensive - then you have to up the cost of the tire to 18" tires.
Give you an example -
I bought a set of (5) Goodyear Duratracs 315/70 -17 @ Discount Tire Direct locally for an out the door price of $1600 installed (killer price - I know) then they forgot to order 2 tires a week before I needed the tires and the guy took off another $100 for my troubles - so that brought the tires down to $1500 installed.
I decided on the Rugged Ridge 17" wheels and found them online for a set of (5) shipped for $904 . So then I ordered my TPMS form EBay for $54 and McGard lugs / wheel locks for $72 off amazon.

So that put my total at $2530
then I had 2 rebates - $40 rebate from Goodyear and $50 from Rugged Ridge = 90
SO my Wheel Tire Set up for 315/70-17's was $2440 out of pocket - DAMN that was a deal !!!

The upgraded price on the Goodyears to go to a 18" tire was going to be another $50/tire = $250 + the Wheel was another $40/wheel = $200. So that's an additional $450 + just for 18's and no other benefits out side of look.

BTW - the XD Monsters don't come in 17"

You can get bumpers for better deals from Quadratec and put them on yourself with basic handtools.

I say shop around and keep the extra cash in your pocket.
