Cool road report 08 Sahara

just made 250 mile freeway run today to the jaws of urban hell & back, managed to miss rush hour jam;

averaged 67 mph @ 1800 rpm- 10.77 gals= 23.2 mpg; auto 3.78 gears; 18" factory rims on OEM Bridgestone Dueler A/Ts; no lift.

took rear seat out yesterday, LOTS of room back there now!!!!

Great mileage Jake. Hope mine does that good. I will have the same setup you do. I think it's them 373 gears and 18 inch wheels that do it. Oh and who needs 4 door when you can have 2.

I need a 4 door, KS. Thanks for asking.

Man Jake, your mileage stats are killing me. With stock BFGs, a soft top, and a removed airdam, I've averaged about 16.3 for three tanks now.

Out of curiosity, did you happen to check how close your onboard computer was at figuring out your mileage? Mine tries to make me feel better by tossing me a consistent extra mpg.

I've been skeptical on reliability and "irrational exuberance" of the onboard computer.....however, so far in such instances as above, it is within .1 mpg.

I do reset it often to erase the 'overall averaging' feature....not sure if it works that way but my Ram has a cumulative vs spot check now report mode.

The longer you leave it reading without reset, the longer it takes to make a change either way from what I've noticed. If I set it just after getting on a run somewhere, I can expect to see it change every so often depending on how much slim-pedal I use vs road speed.

Relying on cruise most of the way helps increase mpg for me.

I did draft about 6 miles behind a big rig and the spot average rose to over 28 for a while!!!

But it seems to like the 67/1800rpm range well...which is just below where the aerodynamic ramp increases for the air resistance. Coincidence or design? Works for me.

EDIT: the prior tank, I spent most of the day running around in the city and mileage dropped to barely over 18. Which still is pretty decent IMHO.
