Rockkrawler's new control joints vs Metalcloak's Durajoint

RK has redesigned their control arm joints. They claim to have the best misalignment of any off road company with a boasted +/- 30 degrees for 60 degrees of misalignment. There is not much info released on them yet and I doubt many in the forum are wearing them yet.
Metalcloak claims +/- 34 degrees for 68 degrees of misaligment and their joints and hardware in general have gained a lot of popularity, leading some Jeepers to jump RK ship and change out to MC stuff. I haven't read of MC people jumping to RK after using MC products.

If money were not an objective, and you were putting together a build, would you try the RK control arms or would you run Metalcloak arms and why? Or, is 8 degrees nil and go with the better buy (less expensive)?

Let me start off with, I haven't seen these "New" RK joints. I have installed several of their older style ones on several JKs. I also have read about people having to rebuild them every year, more so if there are really driven hard. I haven't heard much of the same from MC owners. Granted, in comparison MC is still a small company and doesn't have the same number of people using their kits as RK or even AEV.

With that said, I'm going to suggest the MC joints over the RK. I just like the dura-joint technology over the traditional RK joints. Based on overall engineering and customer reviews. Your right in that there are a lot of people jumping from RK to MC and not many vice-versa and that does have some merit when considering between the kits. Good luck.

I am starting the process of researching lift kits and have narrowed it down to these 2 companies, did not know RK had new control arm joints, that complicates the decision a bit.

I believe the new RK joints have a poly race like other spherical joints. If NVH is a concern the newer joints should be better. Still no comparison to stock or the MC duraflex joint.

You can buy gold coins via dozens of online sellers...even eBay. I have the RK CA...tempted to go Metalcloak though. They should put the arms for sale- half a gold coin.

So the duraflex joints are far superior in your opinion?

I was wrong. I can't say which is better, these joints are not available yet. Compared to the the they're using now... Yes, I would chose MC.

* Fully machined chromoly housings versus as forged surfaces
* Obviously greasable, but they are still very well sealed from the enviroment. They have a grease groove machined in them like our current ones.
* up to +/- 30 degrees of misalignment for a total of up 60 degrees (crazy we know - this is the big thing we were after)
* Larger bushings and ball centers for improved ride quality and improved durability
* Machined to accept 9/16 hardware (That is right, we listen to our customers and Jeep community. It just takes time to go through development, testing and get them into production.)
* Heck, they just look better! This is our 10th year in business! Time to step up the game! The more enviroments we test in, the better we want to be. In our new facility we have new machines, so why not take advantage of them! Game on.

These are true spherical joints, not want to be spherical joints with off-road ability that cannot be matched by any other rebuildable, spherical, take apart joint!

The only draw back is, a tool is now required to adjust pre-load or rebuild them.

We will also have them in 7/8 shanks with 2" diameter heads as well!

I bought 2 spares of the old RK joints and have yet to use one of them. The brackets are completely trashed and bent to where the joints are taking a lot of abuse in the rocks now. I don't have any plans of changing anything out since everything has been working and holding up so good for me.

That being said I would most likely go with the new RK joints if I swaped. Hell if nothing else just so I could get to jam out with there hold music if I had to be put on hold while ordering parts.

Haha not quite.

As far as the jumping ship statement earlier goes. I have seen where some people have went from a RK 2.5 lift and ended up going MC when they went to a long arm. I have yet to run across a thread where anyone has actually replaced there RK long arm with somehing else.(not saying no one has just haven't seen it) To me that would be jumping ship.

I read it over on JKO. The new joint was previewed at Jeep beach.

I have TF lowers and hopefully soon, the rest of their arms.
Some don't know this, MC makes a JJ kit for the Duraflex joint that also works in the TF housing.

Just noticed this but the MC are 17 degrees for a total of 34. Not 34 degrees totaling 68.
