Cool Roll Bar Frame removal?

OK, I usually just try and figure something out rather than ask.. but as new JK owner, I don't want to make a mistake and not be able to return to original. Can the roll bar frame covers actually come off completely? Is the metal completely matching the body paint? Is this ok to remove? I see some zippers and some plastic insulation under.. Impossible to get back on if I choose?

I've seen people with the covers off and their sport cages have all been color-matched. Not sure if it's year by year but I'd guess that they all come painted.

Hitmoney's looked like it was painted before he started to go wild on it...

I have pulled back a piece and had a peek at mine. My 07 is silver and so is my roll cage.

Ive whacked my head many times on the drivers side bar. Actually wish it was more padded.
