I didn't get it through a vendor, but here's my install write-up on this insert: http://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/goo...cs-136841.html

Another member just installed one too and did a brief write-up . . . I'll see if I can find the link . . .

Edit - Here it is: http://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/rug...ll-140371.html

Call me cheap if you will, but I can't see spending that much money for those. I bought some wire mesh from the cement dept. at Lowes, and cut to fit it under my grill. Less than $30.00 for the whole idea, with enough material to do two more Jeeps. I did not paint the material black, as it sorta matches the winch fairlead that sits right there.

The entire installation took about 15 minutes. I can't believe how easy the grill comes off!

Follow the other people here for the pictures of how to remove the grill, and do it yourself. It's so much fun to work on your own rig, and the piece of mind, or satisfaction of DYI is wonderful.

I'm just sayin'.....

How did you attach the mesh to the grill?

I bought a kit off EBay for $29.00..... Installed it Sunday. If I have issues with it I'll replace the mesh with wire versus the plastic.

Yeah yeah, I did the old gutter guard option for awhile too--similar to the wire mesh but a weather resistant plastic. The problem comes with figuring out the best way to attach the mesh to the grille, as most adhesive/tab set ups eventually give out over time. The Rugged Ridge bolts to your grille. And really, $50 just isn't that much more than $30 and it is still a DIY install. But still, post pics of your install if you've got some. Many folks really like the grille mesh look, and there's a number of different approaches to get it done.

I have it installed on my JKU. I think it looks good. I had to make some alignment adjustments to get the mesh bulges to align with the grille openings because one of the bulges was off-center a bit. I used my rubber mallet to "adjust" one of the bulges in the mesh.

I also had one problem with it, which was not really the grille insert's fault. I had to cut part of it, so that it would fit around my Mopar Hood Lock. With the diamond pattern in the grille, I couldn't cut a straight line around the Hood Lock without leaving sharp mesh wires exposed. I did the best that I could cutting the mesh and then cut some black tubing with the tube side split to fit over the mesh where it wrapped around the Hood Lock.

I'm on the other end of the spectrum on this in that I'm going with the metalcrafters model.
It is pricey, but its the best designed and built of them all.

This is strictly personal, but I'm not about to nickel and dime the mods on my Jeep.

Got this one, I try to forget the price but I love it, looks nice and very easy install. Do have to drill a hole to move the temp sensor though.

I just removed the grill, cut the metal to fit inside the ribs in the plastic pieces, and kept it inside the temp sensor and other wires/connections. I attached the wire mesh using self-tapping screws into the same plastic on both sides. I added three wire ties to the bottom, just for extra support, wrapping them around the cross bar under the radiator.

By doing this, it's not attached to the grill, and it's very strong. I didn't take any pictures....I may get the chance tomorrow.

I like these. They look alot more stiff than the gutter guard and 1 pc as well. I agree you can still add the tiewraps for a tighter fit. Available on Amazon, free shipping for about $50.

Just got my half doors back from the paint shop so yep got to experience that one as well . Putting them together with the worthless instructions has been fun. Gotta wait for the locksmith to key them Monday then should finish them up and Tuesday looks like a nice day for half doors if I can just get outta work.

Just my .02 for what I think is a great product!

It all boils down to what the owner is comfortable with.
Personally, I just bought this vehicle and spent some good money on it so I'm not comfortable with the DIY mods.

-catch me in a few years and that opinion might change.

thanks guys, I'm still not done with it. I will probably cut the parts that are still sticking out. I also painted it black so from far you can't really notice it.
