Rubicon locker question

So I am reading the manual and it discusses how to use and activate/de-activate the locers, but it does not discuss what type of lockers the vehicle has.

I have a 2007 Rubicon, so my question is, what type of lockers are used in these vehicles?

Thanks

It has electric lockers. If you look at your axle, you'll see the wires connected to the top of the pinion and gear housing..

Ok I understand that part, but I hear stuff about Dana 44's and such. Do these have a designation like this?

Thanks

You lost me.. Rubicons come with D44 front and rear. Also in the JK's instead of having pneumatic locker, they have installed electric locker with 4.10 gearing..

Dana 44 is the type of axle. The lockers (inside the carrier of the differential) is electronically activated.

I dont know the name of the company. There is Ectic which also makes electric lockers but not sure of the name which are in JK rubicons.

So it is a Dana 44, and is electronically activated? Does this sound correct?

Not a problem, there is always a lot to learn about a new vehicle.

As for your axles, yes they are Dana 44's, as which come with a Rubicon model.

The lockers inside the axles have no real designation other than "electronic".

Hope that is a little clearer.

Hopefully to make it a little clearer for you,, All JKs come with Dana 44 rear axles, and Rubicons come with Dana 44 front and rear. 44s are bigger and stronger than 30s, but serious rock crawlers with huge tires usually switch to Dana 60s..

The axles come with open differential just like a car. The limited slip, or lockers is optional. Except of course on the Rubi the lockers are standard.

The lockers are called "ELD's" (Electronic Lock-up Differentials) and are made by GKN Driveline.

They take .2 seconds to lock per a solenoid / coil that pushes a plunger and they stay locked by torque, not by the solenoid. Springs return the eld to an unlocked state. There's a flat stainless steel plate that pushes a sensor to let the computer know if the eld is locked or unlocked.

This is all from a guy that's in the product design and development for GKN that I talked to a couple weeks ago.
