Rubicon Spring and Shock Take Off

I recently just found some 2013 Rubicon Unlimited take offs on craigslist. It includes (2) 18 Rate Springs (2) 59 Rate Springs (4) Mono-Tube Gas Charged Shocks (Red ones off of the Rubicon)(2) Front Sway Bar Links all for $200. I have a 2009 2 Door X model and was wondering if this purchase would be worth it and how much lift i should expect to gain once installed.

I changed my 14/55 to 18/59 and got 1.5 inches in front and 3/4 in the rear.

cmaggi went from 14/55 to 18/59 and got nearly 2.25" on all four corners. Check it:

I am actually starting my install tonight on the exact same set of springs and shocks - no SB links. Going from 13/55 to 18/59.

Got them from a 7-mile old 2013 JKUR. Nice rainy weekend here to spend in the garage. Not sure what the final height will be.

Sweet. Thanks for all the info and ill take a little time to decide. I would really approach ate it if you included pictures of your instal once you finished it and how much lift you ended up with.

I went from 14/56 in the pic with the snow, to 18/56 with a .5" teraflex spring locator with the factory pad over it in the rear, rubi shocks, and teraflex swaybar discos in the pavement pic. Forgot what I got overall but it was seeming level +1" all around which I found weird for only having .5" spacer in the rear. Hold on and I will add a pic of the 285/70/17 Duratracs. Mobile doesn't always upload right.

Those mods are all I've done suspension wise and its perfect for a daily driver and becauses its a 2 door it holds its own perfectly well in the dirt

Go for it!

I went from 13/55's to 18/59's and they got me 1.5" front and 1.0' rear. With a 1" coil spacer all around, 2.5" front and 2.0" rear.

I got the same thing, minus the sway bar links for 150. When I installed it, I added Daystar 3/4" spacers at all four corners. After it settled, I think I'm at 2.25" of lift all around.
The install was much, much easier than I thought it would be. The only thing I think we missed on the install was to loosen the track bar bolts and re-torque them afterward. If I could do it again I would have replaced those stock bolts at that time.
The Rubi shocks are a lot better than the stock X setup.

Spent about 8 hours total installing today. Included in that was a trip to Sears to get a 16mm socket and gear wrench that I knew I would need but wanted to do as much as I could. Then took a break/drive in the DD.....

All in all very straight forward swap. Took my time, read every step of the install instructions that I was following, got every bolt torqued to spec.

In the end I gained about 1.25" in the rear and 1.75" in the front. Went from 13/55 to 18/59.

I just did the same thing. Netted about 2.5 inch lift total. I love jeeps. I've bought so many perfectly good takeoff parts it's scary. I've attached before/after pics (before pic second).

I gotta say I am so heppy with the results. I wanted just a smidge more height. I had to keep just under 2" of additional height to keep under my garage height (with hard top on) and this worked perfectly.

Took the beast for a cruise and I love the feel of the shocks/springs. Less brake dive and overall a more plush feeling. I notice the height when getting in/out. Actually noticed the height just shutting the tailgate. Everything is just taller and I got used to the old height and noticed the difference. Even driving I could feel the height.

All in all money well spent and I gained a ton of knowledge doing it myself. The Jeep is now perfect with height/wheel size ratio.

Another question. Are only rubicon shocks red? My x already has the red shocks so I was wondering if the previous owner put them on.

As far as I know, the only MOPAR shocks that are red are Rubicon shocks. COD shocks are black Rubicon shocks but they're the only Rubicon shocks that aren't red.

I am preparing to do this exact mod in the coming weeks. Going from 16/58 to 18/59, adding the rubicon shocks, and will be purchasing the Terflex spacer kit (the kit that is $130). I know the springs are just slightly stiffer, but I got them for a deal I couldn't pass up. I also picked up some jack stands this weekend, so I am inching my way to having all the parts I need to do this myself.

My friend had this done at a shop, along with replacing his steering stabilizer. The shop also had him do an alignment. Is an alignment really necessary after replacing these parts?

The install instructions you were following that includes the torque settings, where did you get them?

If you need to realign the steering wheel, follow this:

Basic Do-it-Yourself Jeep JK Wrangler Front End Alignment

I didn't have to adjust anything after the install. Since I didn't go over 2", I guess it wasn't enough to turn the wheels from the original setting.

One piece of advice is to remove the front brake line brackets on the frame and the lower mounting point that is on the axle. For each point there is a 10mm bolt and you slide the lower silver mount out of the axle mount to give the lines the extra length to drop the axle to the lowest point.

The Rubi springs are meant for the heavier 4dr so expect some bounciness if you've got an unloaded two door ragtop.

With a passenger, the springs compress a bit and the ride improves considerably.
