Rubicon Sway Bar Disconnect Problems, Questions

My sway bar disconnect has problems. It is the third unit that has been on the jeep since new. The first two were replaced under warranty. The third unit has now gotten wet and has shorted out just like the other two but now I am out of warranty and also out of extended warranty. Does anybody know what my options are from here? Can it be outfitted for a manual disconnect? Can the electronics be replaced without replacing the whole unit? Has anybody had any experience with this unit. I am familiar with electronics and would pull it down and repair it if I knew that this were possible. Anybody ever done this?

Have you seen the EVO manual conversion?
I mean the sissy button is no longer useable but the unit can still be utilized w/ sway bar links connected.

I went and checked them out and ordered one. At the very least it will do as a replacement for the electronic one until I have a chance to get a closer look at what went wrong. I'm also going to put on order an AEV procal to program the light off (if possible). It said that the light would need to be programmed off on their website. Thanks jeeper.

It looks like it just bolts up where the electric one goes. So, for less than $100.00 I get to replace a unit that costs about $2000.00 from the dealer. Then I get to tear apart the old one and give it a close inspection to see if I can tell what went wrong with the electronics. The dealer that I took it to up in Maine while I was on vacation said that they are seeing a lot of disconnects fail due to water getting inside. He said that mechanically the units are still good but the electronics are shorting out wreaking havoc with the CAN bus. My jeep went spastic when this disconnect went bad. As soon as they disconnected the connection to the unit the computer was happy and all went back to normal.

Any suggestions for a programmer? It would be nice if I could get one that would do both of my jeeps. I have two 2008 jeeps. Looks like the AEV is keyed into the vehicle. Is the Procal the same? I haven't been able to locate information on the Procal yet.

The AEV and Procal are the same thing. Procal is the name of AEV's programmer.

I have it installed on mine. It works very well. One tip if you get it and install, is to clean out the threads before reinstalling bolts. The bolts go in a lot further and the rear of the holes is usually full of dirt. Simple to use and easy to get to. PS I know I have a sport but bought a rubicon sway bar and had it installed. The install of the EVO manual disconnect is very easy to do.

Here is a pic of mine.

I meant to say superchips.

The description of the disconnect replacement said that the AEV Procal will program the dashboard light off. I ordered it. Then I will be able to take the electrical tape off of my instrument cluster after the annoying flashing light has been extinguished.

Got the disconnect a few weeks ago but haven't had a chance to install it yet. What the disconnect looks like before uninstalling the old one:

What the manual disconnect looked like upon arrival:

After I pulled the electronic disconnect, notice the rust showing where the water had gotten in:

And finally, the manual disconnect installed, it was an easy install, place the supplied washer in the small well and insert the spring behind it:

I think it took me about half an hour to install.

I got the AEV procal and programmed the sway bar light off.

The dealer up in Maine had detached the connector to the electronic disconnect and put the connector in a plastic bag, then taped it up. The connector has remained dry for over a month so I'm going to leave it like that for now. Only drawback to this is that I have to get under the jeep to disconnect now.

Thank you for the answer. I don't off road I use the jeep on road all the time. I modified the original part in to manual disconnect. my question now is should the pim go inside for highway use? in other words when I completely remove the sway bar motor I think it is safer that way on the highway. briefly should the pim go inside or stay outside for highway use? thanks.

Any reason to think this would not fit a 2013? I don't see a separate part for later models.
