Rugged Ridge Hood catches

Ordered a set of Rugged Ridge hood catches the other day and FedEx dropped them off this morning...so out in the cold I went to install them. The install is a breeze if you have the correct tools.

I opted for the black powder coated latches. Took the Jeep for a test drive after install and a truck passing me head on at over 60mph did not cause the hood to flutter at all. These catches are made of strong aluminum and imo are not only an investment in safety but look great as well.

A few pics below.

Thanks for looking.

They look really good, nice clean install.

Just out of curiosity, you mentioned hood flutter, do you have your Air Dam removed?

I've had mine for a year and love them. Very beefy, doesn't rust, and eliminates hood flutter.

Have them on 2 jeeps. One for almost 2 years. Work great. Look way better than OEM rubber bands.

Yes I took the air dam off after the first few months I owned the Jeep, but I still had hood flutter when the air dam was installed.

I haven't noticed any hood flutter with my 2012 JKU. Maybe it's happening but I just haven't noticed it. Wouldn't be the first thing I haven't noticed.

My air dam was torn off after the first few times I went off-road, but it wasn't until I installed my front bumper that I really noticed the hood flutter.

When it happens, you will know. I had more than one passenger ask if the hood was latched well enough before I replaced my latches,

I now have the rugged ridge latches.

For me it only happened at highway speeds when a large truck passed me head on, it was really quite scary as my wife and I would just look at each other afterwards and say something needs to be done about that!

For what ever reason, I don't have any hood flutter on my 2013, even at speeds of up to 80 MPH. But my Air Dam is still on, but will be coming off soon.

But, I like the way that these latches look, so I am going to get a set.

Thanks for the pictures and INFO..........

I still have my air dam so that must be why I haven't experienced it.

Those look great! I was just looking at those on Amazon.

Quick question:

Amazon has the latch model #11210.15 for $64 and model 11210.11 for $84.

I can't figure out the difference, if there is one. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Mine are 11210.11 (black powder coat) and the other I could have gotten was 11116.07 (stylish silver)...not sure what the 11210.15 model is.

Yeah, I just saw that in the Q&A section, but not in the description. Glad I asked, I had the $64 one in my cart.

Thanks!

I had never seen these before but, they look really nice. Anyone have a preference to these over the Drake Off Road turnbuckle style?

After my cross-country trip to AZ. I had my first experience with hood flutter. Flutter was a bit of an understatement. I thought the dang hood was gong to come right off. it was "fluttering" 2-4", which looks huge at highway speeds. I used zip ties to hold the hood down for the remainder of the trip but have been looking for a replacement latch since.

I know it's all a matter of personal preference but to me these look like they belong on a jeep. The Drake latches would look better on a sports car.

I've only had my JK a couple of weeks and never had the hood flutter. I just got back from a 6 hour trip and the 30 mph wind plus trucks had my hood jumping all over the place. Glad I found this thread because I was gonna start one. Ordering the rugged Ridge latches tonight.

BTW, what is up with the "Air Dam"? I did remove the skid plate when I added my tow bars. Can't imagine it was doing anything.

Many guys remove the spring on the hood and say it eliminates the hood flutter.

The air dam just allows a bit less air under the Jeep, but I didn't like the thing from the get go.I like to see the front pumpkin unobstructed...looks like a tough old school 4X4 without it...lol

I have removed hood spring and it does help but does not eliminate the
hood flutter. I am in windy Kansas and drive the I-235 interstate full of
trucks everyday.
